Said it was from a Gary Washburn Tweet. Basically Perk said that he thinks Doc has a lot more confidence in the team than the players have. Hmmmmm.

Here is the exact quote from his Twitter account: Kendrick Perkins: "I think Doc got more confidence in us than we've got in ourselves."

Didn't one of them say last week that they still had confidence? Which is it?
"If somebody would have told you when he was playing with the Knicks that Nate Robinson was going to change a big time game and he was going to do it mostly because of his defense, somebody would have got slapped."  Mark Jackson

Perk will make a good coach if he ever wants to be one.

What makes you say that?  I guess I just never thought about him that way, so I am having trouble picturing it.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
if perk was a coach, he'd never be around at the end of the game...

No disrespect to you, PosImpos, but I think that Pop is a better coach than Doc because the Spurs had the Big Fundamental fall into their laps vice ours in the draft.

Doc is not the best coach, but I believe he is under-rated sometimes.

Tim Duncan and Greg Popovich have made each other.  I don't think you can say it's definitely one or the other; neither of them would have had the career they've had without the other.

Yes, TD would have been mediocre if not for Pop's tutelage.

Hard to say one of the top two players of their era (Duncan and Shaq) is only because of the coach.  Duncan would have been one of the top two players even if he had another coach.

And the Admiral's (David Robinson) tutelage.

He's absolutely correct. The team needs to improve it's mindset. It needs to build some momentum. Much of their struggles were due to injuries. The team was cruising until Xmas and then they didn't have PP and KG healthy and playing at the same time for more than a few games over 2+ months.

They play shorthanded, or they play with very subpar starters due to injury. They are lacking cohesion due to having their main players in and out of the lineup. They have a stretch of bad play where they give up some large runs. After a while they kind of expect it to happen when they get down a little.

I think it's a lot like when Ray goes into a slump. As the esteemed Donny Marshall likes to say, what Ray needs to do to start making shots is to start making shots. He'll get the confidence back. That's what the team needs to do. Doc sees this. He sees a team that's capable of beating anyone if they just play well for a whole game. Hence, he has more confidence in the team than the players do. People (including me) talk about KG needing to get a little healthier, Paul needing to get healthier/play better, and the need for cohesiveness. But the team's clearly in a funk.

Sarcasm and sports forum is a marriage made in the LA Lakers lockerroom.  (I figure this is one of the most evil places on the face of the Earth)

somebody ought to tell Perk that there are some things better kept under wraps...  it might be true, but what a dumb thing to go public with.  maybe perk is just speaking for himself?

I'd rather he tell the truth then keep shoveling the same BS the teams been doing for the last few months.

Before you try to teach others, shouldn't you be fundamentally sound yourself?
