I've changed my mind. I don't think the Celtics should pursue Michael Finley.

Finley requested to be waived from the Spurs because he was unhappy with the playing time he received. He wants a consistent rotation role and I am wholly uncomfortable with that. I think that hurts the Celtics rather than helps them.

Finley is not a suitable target.
Who,i agree,if there was anything left in the tank don't you think Pop would still be using him?

They have Jefferson, Ginobili, Bogans and Mason in front of him.  It was a matter of numbers.
I disagree...if Finley had much left in the tank he would have been a part of the regular rotation as in the past, and especially ahead of Bogans and Mason.

Well, a big part of the problem was that Finley was injured for a while, and it wasn't until he came back that he was completely out of the rotation.

Honestly, I am not sure what Finley has left.  All I know is that last year, he DID have something left in the tank, and I also know that Bogans has played well this year, and Mason is a very good player as well, so losing minutes to them does not mean he can't help the C's team.

The other issue is that Finley doesn't really bring anything to the table that Bogans and Mason doesn't, however, he DOES bring something that Daniels and Allen don't.  He is a good perimeter shooter (as are Bogans and Mason), while the C's are in need for that off the bench.

So it is certainly the posibility that someone else's garbage could help the C's, just because he fits into a role that they need, even though his previous team did not need it.
Finley never played good defense even when he was younger, and this team needs help rebounding and a decent defender as well scoring points.

The last 2 games i saw him play in he was slow and didn't shoot well.

Again, we are not talking about a spot in the rotation.  We are talking about a designated shooter.  Think a 6'6" Eddie House.

Look at who is out there.  There is no one that they are going to bring in, who is good enough to be a regular part of the rotation.  But if they can fill a hole at the end of the bench with a veteran, professional player, who brings something that the other bench wings are missing, then it would be a valuable addition to this team.

Yeah, basically, I just think Finley is a better option than an empty roster spot, or a D-League guy who will never see the floor.

Danny is fond of him, he is a great character guy.  I doubt he has a ton of game left, but if he can shoot the rock, no reason he can't help.

Trust Danny to do the right thing, but IMO they won't go after him

Yeah, well Danny could have had Birdman for NOTHING...and he didn't do it....What I wouldn't give for THAT kind of energy guy---as I watch the C's getting KILLED on the boards every night-!

Pierce will need to have his minutes parred down during the playoffs. That's pretty clear; he can't play for two or more OTs in a row like last year. Yes, if it goes 7, he can take some caffeine pills (plus cortisone shots) and do it all for a single game. But then, if that's prior to another conference series, then he'll need to play only 20 mins for that subsequent game one.

As his backup, TA can play at most, garbage minutes. He's a liability when an opposing team is making a run. Quis (or Sheldon) are bench guys, they can't play starter minutes in place of Pierce for a consistent duration of time. Scals in not a 3, during a serious contest.

Thus, Finley would make for a great addition, if only to add star power longevity to the 3 spot for the entire playoffs. What that does is create a two-headed small forward, with ample substitutes available to make everyone fresh.

At the same time, it keeps Scals away from the SF role and in his natural place to stretch the floor as a 4, when the situation calls for it.
