Roy...Durant...Horford...  How many titles do those guys have?

I can't believe anyone could say with a straight face that they'd give up a championship for more years of rebuilding, with no guarantee at the end of the proverbial rainbow.

i think some people here just post these things to be divisive, not because they honestly believe what they type...

I have been reading this topic over the last couple of days and basically agree with the above poster. We knew what were getting ourselves into when we made the trade. I realize there is a big difference between Green and Durant and something different would have happened, but geez, who would give up our guaranteed championship for just a 'chance' to be great? It is just totally irrational.

Well, the current big three had a 3 year window.  That window is now closing (if not closed already), so where do the Celtics go from here?

A window is nothing but  an empty hole in the wall.

2007-2008 is not a 'window', it's a banner and it means a great deal more than the unknown of future windows.

No it doesn't.  It's gone, it's over, like the Crusades and World War II. A banner is a piece of cloth, like a flag. It was great while it was happening, and I enjoyed it too.  But I'm enjoying this year considerably less.

What matters now is the present and future.

I disagree...well I don't disagree that you can't rest your on your laurels and be satisfied. That's the 90's all over again. I'm not saying don't be aggressive.

But I am saying that in sports, at least for me as a fan, the past matters. It matters a lot. I was alive and aware during a Celtics championship. Whatever hypothetical pragmatic future Bill Simmons and his dad might cook up, they can't guarantee me what I already have, and I ain't trading.

If all you're after is a thrill a night an no real down times...than I suggest the WWE. I hear they put on a good show. Perhaps monster truck rallies.

I'm not calling out you specifically as a fan Brick and I hope I don't come across like that. I'm saying..the goal is a championship. We got one. All the odds in the world if we had Durant can't guarantee that.

Sure, we got one, so let's get more.  But we're not going to do it with these old men.

When the last buzzer went off in game 6 of the finals, my whole body was shaking. One of the best moments of my life. I will not trade that away for Durant.

Title in hand is far better than "talented young team thats going to put it all together soon!"

The san deigo chargers, as an off the cuff example.  Remember when they were going to be a dynasty in 2004? good times...good times.

I would not trade that title for anything, even a player as offensively talented as Durant.

Others may not agree with me, but this is my opinion:

The 2007-08 Celtics season was the greatest single season any NBA fanbase has ever had.  When you look at where we were at the end of the 07 season, and where we wound up just a year later, nothing like it has ever happened before or since.

The greatest franchise in league history, at perhaps its lowest point, somehow pulls off a series of major gambles that ALL WORKED, and turns the second-worst team in the league with a #5 pick into the greatest turnaround in league history, a redemption of the careers of the Big 3, glimpses of a budding star (Rondo) and a longtime project finally coming into his own (Perk), one of the greatest Game 7 duels of all time where our captain outplays one of the two best players in the league, and tops it all off with a historic beatdown over a (then) ridiculously overhyped Lakers team and a Finals MVP for our long-maligned superstar, who only had to outduel the OTHER best player in the league to do it.

If it had been the plot of a movie we'd've mocked it as ridiculous.  Celtics 131, Lakers 92, Paul Pierce named Finals MVP is the sort of scenario I'd've doodled in my notebook in 3rd grade.  And it happened.

That season was like a giant Christmas present we got to unwrap over the course of 11 months.  I wouldn't trade it for anything save the survival of the franchise itself.

This pretty much sums it up for me. TP for the excellent post.

Take #17.

Then, start talking to Durant. Tell him he needs to leave tiny little OKC to really cement his legacy in NBA history. Start telling him stories of the history of the SF position...a list defined by champions that could go Havlicek, Bird, Pierce, Durant, in one sentence. Tell Durant we want him and only him. Tell him to play out his Qualifying offer year and enter free agency...which happens to be the 2012 offseason, so he'd be a UFA the year KG comes off the books...max contract...Rondo-Durant-Perkins core plus another max contract room...done.

LOL. That sounds very Bob Sugar-esque. TP.

#17 No doubt.

A) Beat the Lakers
B) 27 - 2 last year
C) You cant predict injuries

What IF Durant played in Boston and got hurt here?
Injuries are just a part of the game.

Look at Griffin and Oden.
Anything could happen, so I would bank title #17.
