Too much money tied to 2 players with too many weaknesses (Martin is too injury-prone for my taste; Ellis is very one-dimentional; none defends too well) and that play the same position.

Ellis should be paired with a wing play-maker (ideally LeBron James) and with a PG like Hinrich. He'd thrive in Cleveland coming off the bench. Replace Mo Williams with him, start West/Parker/LeBron and you can finish games with West/Ellis/LeBron or Ellis/Parker/LeBron depending on the opponent. A Ellis+Martin backcourt would put a lot of defensive and playmaking responsibility in the 3rd guy.

I wouldn't trade Rondo for Ellis, and isn't Martin out for the year? We would give up on our last 2 years with the big three for that?

That's way too much money the Celtics would be committing to a backcourt of Ellis/Martin. These guys put up good numbers, but they don't play defense, have injury concerns and I think they wouldn't mesh well at all. I'd be more interested if Tyreke Evans was included instead of Martin, but I don't think the Kings are trading Evans anytime soon.

I think Ellis and Martin would play more defense after spending some time on a defensive orientated club like the Celtics.

Having a frontcourt like Pierce, Garnett and Perkins could/would have a large positive on their defensive efforts.
