I don't see how Sacramento trades Martin for salary relief, BBD, and a pick at the end of the first round. He's worth much more than that.
Think back a couple of years ago do you think you might have been saying:
"I don't see how Memphis trades Gasol for salary relief, the rights to his brother Marc and a pick at the end of the first round. He's worth much more than that."
At the very least our salary relief is one of the greatest outside shooters in NBA history and an All-Star two years ago and not Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittendon and Aaron McKie.
Gasol was clearly being shopped and there were issues with him in Memphis. Not the same thing in Sac.
Memphis also went into decline after having made the playoffs, leading to fans not caring for Gasol. Sac loves Martin.
There are issues in Sactown. Apparently they are finding out that Evans isn't a PG but a SG and a Beno Udrih, Tyreke Evans back court appears to them as Martin is injury prone.
Also, the Maloofs are losing their shirts in their entertainment production business and are hurting big time in their Las Vegas hotel business. They want to lower payroll big time and a $20 million expiring contract is just what they need to move a couple of players with a lot of long term money on their contracts. That's $50+ million of future money coming off the books.
Also, they get Ray Allen's Bird rights which would make it perfect for them to do a sign and trade of his future contract. Being under the cap, the Kings could then trade him in a sign and trade to a team over the cap for youth and draft picks without having to take back equal contractual value. A team like Atlanta might give up the rights to Josh Childress and a couple of draft picks to do a sign and trade if it looks like they are going to lose Joe Johnson. If Toronto re-ups Bosh, they might be willing to give up DeMarr Derozan and a couple picks(1st and 2nd) in a sign and trade as they will be over the cap.
Also, I don't know what fans feel about a player has to do with trades. Sacramento fans loving Martin aren't going to make a difference because the Kings will probably being playing in another city pretty soon.
