Don't they already have like three point guards? They should cut Atkins so we can sign him.

I know if we're going to go out and get a back up point we cant really be picky, but no thanks on Chuck.  He's a horrible defender.

Every time I hear his name I just remember Kenny Anderson consistently ripping him a new one when we played Detriot in the playoffs back in '02.  Which in turn made them ditch Chuck and sign Billups from Minnesota, I guess that one worked out for them....

I agree that Chucky Atkins has nothing much left in the tank. But, he has one of the most valuable contracts in the league. He has a $3.48 M unguaranteed contract (only 760K guaranteed). He can be traded for another player with a salary up to about $4.4M (125% rule) and then cut - leaving his team only with a salary cap hit of $760K. So the team will save about $3.7M in salary.  As the season progresses, (before Jan 10 when salaries get guaranteed), a team that is is only $3-4M over the luxury tax level and wants to get below it or wants to just save $$ will do much better trading for Chucky Atkins  - most of whose salary can be written off this year - than for expirings who have salary cap/luxury tax savings value next year. If we could get Atkins, we'd be in the premier position for picking a quality player from a team that wants to immediately dump salary.
