ESPN insider is reporting in its Rumors that Memphis is going to be looking for a power foward and have named Leon Powe and Glen Davis as 2 players they are interested in signing.
I cant really see them going after Powe all that hard, but I could see them going after Davis pretty hard.
They have the cap room to sign either and their salary is low enough to afford moderate contracts to a backup big. Still I'd hate to see either exiled to Memphis....
Sign & Trade? Involving Warrick? Arthur?
well, if they were going to let warrick walk anyway, we could just threaten to match any offer they make to davis unless they agreed to a s&t with warrick. Then, with the way the cap is working, i think we'd have to accept about 50% of Davis's outgoing salary in a trade, so whatever Davis signs for, they'd sign warrick for 50% or so of that and send him to us.
The benefit for them is that the get Davis at the price they wanted without the risk of us matching and keeping him (like what happened when they made an offer for josh smith last year and lost out on him).
The benefit for us is that if we really didn't want to spend that much on davis, we'd be spending 1/2 as much on an athletic 3/4 like Warrick and wouldn't have had to dip into any MLE money to do so. In other words, if we weren't going to match a heavy offer for davis anyway, it'd be like getting extra FA money. And if they wanted to toss arthur in too, all the better.
