Everyone, and rightfully so, was in uproar when the Lakers traded for Pau Gasol when they basically only had to give up a bag of basketballs.

Well let's look the trades going down...

-Shaq to Cleveland for Ben Wallace who's probably going to retire, Sasha Pavlovic who can shoot the 3 and nothing else, and a Cavs pick.
-Vince Carter to Orlando for Rafaer Alston, Courtney Lee, and Tony Battie.  While Alston is solid, Lee is still only going into his second year after having a semi-good rookie year, and Tony Battie who...well he's Tony Battie
-And now this supposed trade that will happen with Amare going to Golden State for Marco Bellanelli, Brandan Wright, and Andris Biedrins.  Marco and Brandan have shown nothing so far in their careers.

Teams just seem to be giving players away for cap space right now.  The Celtics really need to get on this and see what players they can also steal from teams.

Well, what they've been saying today about these trades is that because of the bad economy and teams being so desirous of cap space for 2010, there is a widening rift between the "haves" and the "have nots."  Or in other words, the teams that are willing to spend over the luxury cap and want to win now, and the teams that want to get under the cap or who can't afford to pay more money.

I'm not sure how the Celtics can really cash in on the current climate, though, unless we trade Ray and maybe Scal+TA.  We don't have a lot of young pieces on the bench to trade like Golden State, and we don't have any huge expirings outside of our starting lineup like Orlando or Cleveland.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

I have no problem with the RJ and Shaq trades, I thought their teams got back good assets. Not immediate talent, but something that will help them rebuild. I thought the Warriors got an unbelievably good offer for Crawford too, great trade for them.

The Vince Carter trade was as good as NJ could get. Nobody would have given up more, and they should be proud that they got a young player as good as Courtney Lee, because it didn't look like they were going to get anyone as good as them. I feel a bit bad for NJ, they deserved to get more for a player as talented as VC, but they did as well as they could have.

That GSW-Suns rumoured trade is the most one-sided foolish trade I've seen. I don't believe it yet, I need to see it happen first.
