In a similar vein, Chad Ford mentioned in an update on trade talk that the Pistons may be looking to part with their pick and Amir Johnson to save some money...

If that's the case, maybe the Celts could work something out to get both Johnson (who has some athleticism) and the #15 pick.  That would certainly put them in position to take a backup pg or wing player like Collison, Flynn or maybe Wayne Ellington.

Didn't read the article, but I guess the logic would be to trim payroll to get even further under the cap.

Johnson just hasn't put it together at all since coming into the league. But, I understand Ainge really wanted him when he was available in the draft (but had to fulfill a promise to Orien Greene's agent and select him instead).

Frankly, I think the pick would be worth more than Amir. Would rather simply buy it from the Pistons, and let them figure out a buyer for Amir.

I'd be very open to johnson. he's got tons of talent, the ability to be a very good defender and would have the perfect mentor in garnett.

Don't we already have a 6'5" project at the 2 and a 6'7" project at the 3 named Giddens and Walker, respectively. Why would we buy a draft pick to draft a project to play at a position where we already have projects?

Unless Danny moves Giddens or Walker or both of them, I seriously doubt that he would buy a mid-late 1st rounder to guarantee a contract for yet another project at the SG-SF position. This team needs veterans at those areas not more youth.

If Danny is going to get a pick anywhere between 21 and say 40 I think guys he should be looking at are guys with length or true PG skills. Guys like

Jrue Holiday
Darren Collison
AJ Price
Josh Heytvelt
BJ Mullens

The only SG I would want from this draft is Wayne Ellington and, unfortunately, I think his stock has skyrocketed since midway throught the college season to the point where he could go top 10.

if you like the player you go get the guy. you wouldn't take a guy you believed could be a very good player for you because of giddens? you're kidding right? that's like saying don't take rondo, we have telfair.

I'm sorry, has it been proven that Giddens and Walker are Telfair like failures as of yet?

Is there really a player out there that can be had at 21 that Danny truly feels is so much better than either Walker or Giddens, to the point where they make themselves analogous to Rondo as compared to Walker and Giddens Telfair, that he is willing to give up on either one while still keeping them on the roster?

Are the players left at 21 in this year's draft, which to a man every basketball expert says is one of the worst draft crops in years, really so much better than Walker or Giddens that Danny would guarantee them a 2 year $3 million contract that would cost the team $ million due to luxury tax implications?

Is there really a player that much better than Walker and Giddens that Danny is willing to take up 20% of his roster on SG/SF under 22 year old projects on a championship team who's coach says they needmore veterans and less youth?

Sorry, I'm taking a look at the larger picture and unless he trades away either Giddens or Walker first, or at least has the knowledge and guarantee that he can trade one, it makes no sense to draft another project this year at that position and take the gamble that you can trade one of the gys we have and then get stuck with all of them. How are we going to compete for a championship if 20% of the roster is almost guaranteed not to be able to help us in the playoffs because they are projects.
