Walter Jones isn't a world class talent like Manny Ramirez

You might want to ask Shaun Alexander and Matt Hasselbeck about that.  Or the people that selected him to his nine Pro Bowls for his work protecting the quarterback's blind side.

I said that "I think" anything about why Manny's sitting out.  I merely pointed out that there is some precedent for the theory expressed in the OP.

How Walter and Manny compare across their two sports is debatable.  But it isn't fair to put down Jones as "not a world class talent."

I suppose any athlete in the NFL - especially someone like Jones - could be considered, technically, a "world class talent". But as far as abilities in their respective sports go, he is simply not close to Manny Ramirez.

Just hope it's a two year deal, so that the franchise retains some control over the situation.

Maintaining control of Manny?  Yeah, like I maintained control over my bowels after eating the BACON EXPLOSION.

Too soon?

LOL really hard.  TP

It is actually understandable that Manny wouldnt be happy with that offer (I am not saying reasonable or not) but there are huge amounts of deferred payments.  45 million for two years, but he only gets 10 million each year and the other cash is deferred a few years with no interest.  that becomes a much worse deal than it appears (again, not saying whether he should make more or not...)

Here's the dilemma....

Where do you take Manny in a fantasy baseball draft right now?

Here's the dilemma....

Where do you take Manny in a fantasy baseball draft right now?

After:
Grady Sizemore
Ryan Braun
Josh Hamilton
B.J. Upton
Carlos Beltran
Alfonso Soriano
Carlos Lee

Maybe Quentin, Crawford, Suzuki (depending on the breakdown of the rest of your players and whether you need HR's or SB, etc...)

This is very simple, Manny doesn't want to go to spring training (he probably doesn't need to anyways) because he's lazy.

Yeah, that's it. I'm sure Manny has instructed the most powerful agent in sports to not take any offer so he can skip spring training. Give me a break. I hear a screaming WEEI caller when I read your post.

How is this outlandish?  We're talking about a guy who made up a hamstring injury so he could miss games in Boston, why wouldn't he take this as an easy excuse to vacation for a couple more weeks?

The thing is, he's such a phenomenal hitter that in the back of his mind he knows it'll just take a week or two once he gets back to get his kinks out then he'll be hitting them out left and right.  You can't deny for a second how talented he is.  However, his work ethic and selfish mindset make it impossible to root for him in my opinion (with a little Red Sox bias added in there too).
