I am not a huge Scal fan, but he has stepped it up the past two years. Especially this year.

I gotta give the guy credit for what he is bringing.

He's the type of player who's value is maximized when he is surrounded with a championship caliber roster.... while he cannot carry the scoring load or really noticeably affect a game, he does all the litle things that augment a great team's success. I know people don't like to hear it, but its the truth.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I have to agree with you here. I worry that the Celts may be afraid to play him. God forbid anything else should happen to him... Seems like the potential for a lawsuit from his family is HUGE.

I hope Scal is alright. He is a good bench guy. Oneof the worse parts about this is that Dirk started it and there wasn't even a foul called. How many elbows does that get to throw before he even gets called for a foul. Get well soon Scal!

There was a foul called... on Scal.

I agree that he is the type of player who shines best doing the little things on a good team.

Hopefully he takes his time coming back, even if it means not coming back this year.  Life is too short.

If it is determined that the injury is season ending for next year, the C's could apply for a disabled player exception.  If the league approves it, it would allow the C's to sign a player for 1/2 of Scal's salary.  The NBA may also not count Scal's salary against the luxury tax, which would be huge.

The other important part would be that insurance would likely pay Scal's salary next year...which would make it much more likely that ownership will open up their checkbooks for a full MLE deal (right now, I don't think its a given).

interesting that that's a rule...so they'll do this, but they wouldn't wipe the deceased reggie lewis' salary off the books...go figure.

Well, they don't HAVE to grant the exception...and there are plenty of examples of when the NBA has not given the exception (for example, I am pretty sure they denied one for Eric Snow to the Cavs).
