Ainge is why we have another banner.  Darius wasn't ready for nba during preseason,he showed signs but his defensive rotations just weren't there, lateral speed etc.
Sam we do owe something to, he is basically easing into retirement/coaching when he could be with many other teams playing every night.
POB I think is a worthwhile gamble and scal is better than darius.
Ainge still has time to work some deals.  I'm for Joe Smith, also ready for walker at sf for 5-10 a game!

If I was one of the Big 3, I'd be ticked off right now at the Celtics front office.  They turned down some decent vets that could have helped the team and instead stuck the Big 3 with a bunch of inconsistent young players.  Birdman, Miles, Mutombo all could be helping the Celtics right now.

Incredibly TERRIBLE offseason by Ainge. >:(

Indeed. Perhaps one title was enough for Ainge and Grousbeck? Sure looks like dollar bills trumped bench quality, doesn't it?

I think it's very difficult to call Darius Miles a "decent vet" in hindsight.  The guy had a devastating knee injury that had kept him out of action for 2 1/2 seasons.

I agree overall, though, that the offseason was a disaster.

Who would we have cut instead of Miles?  I would rather take the risk on POB than keep Miles.  If KG can get into POB's head he might turn into a decent player.  Miles didn't show me anything in the preseason for us to keep him.

We don't have a back up three, and Sam Cassell isn't even playing. I'd rather have Darius over Sam.

There is a big difference between not playing right now, and not going to play and help the team.  The team clearly (from actions, and what they have said) have had a plan all along to save Cassell for the end of the season, so he is fresh for the stretch run and playoffs.  Even though he is not playing right now, he still will likely be a very important member of the team, on the court.

POB is a waste of space, he can't even get out of the dog house when he's the only true backup center.

Miles > sam, POB, BBD, and Scal, in that order, would have been fine with me.

you know, i was thinking the other day that it's a good thing POB's last name isn't O'Sullivan...I'd get a chuckle everytime I'd see "POS" typed here in light of our text-messaging simplification communication system...

I think it is a good investment by the Memphis Player Development Club to sign him, play him enough to get in shape but not too much so that his knee pops and then trade him for a young player or a draft pick.

If the C's had kept him, I don't think he was ready to play and wouldn't have gotten enough chance see NBA action.  He will get that with Memphis and then there might be more than a handful of teams potentially interested.  If he came back to the C's, we could play him at PF against teams like Cle who have that kind of depth and then play him at SF in other situations.  Since POB only plays during garbage time, no harm in putting him in street cloths to make room, once Perk is back.

This was from last nights game vs the Cavs. Pretty impressive and it looks like he is getting some of his quickness/athleticism back. It was nice seeing him drain that J in Lebrons face as well :)

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.
