I am really starting to think Scal just doesn't try in the preseason and garbage minutes.  He has looked terrible in those stretches, but over the last two years, has looked very solid whenever he has gotten regular rotation minutes.  I have a feeling we are going to see Scalabrine getting much more regular minutes going forward.

I agree that he has played better when he has had regular minutes but I don't think its a matter of not trying but its hard to prove your worth in a few minutes of game time. A lot of times you'll take bad shots and try to create something that is just not there. If you know you're going to get playing time its easier to sit back and let things come to you. I'm don't think Scalabrine is Posey but he is the best back-up three man we have on this team.

Yeah, not trying was a bad choice of words.  What I meant was that he plays differently when the games matter.  He seems to have a different focus, and plays within himself more.

Perhaps the focus Scal has when he gets meaningful minutes has something to do with not having the entire Garden sarcastically chanting his name.

hmm....maybe.....

i hated that. it made celtics fans look like such morons.

It's funny how all the diehards (assuming all the people on this blog are diehards) hate the chants - you can bet that most of the Scal chanters are drunken idiots/bandwagoners who think Scal has no basketball ability whatsover (even the Scal haters on the blog can admit that a guy has to have some ability to make it to the NBA).

he's the perfect end of the bench guy. alot of 10th 11th 12th men are either young kids that are trying to prove that they can score, veterans that are over the hill that think they still have the skill of their younger versions, or players that think they should be starters and therefor aren't very good for your team chemistry.

scal is 30 years old, he understands his abilities, and most of all, his role on the team. he knows what he has to do out there and is happy to do it. always a smile, always working hard, always helping with the younger players and keeping composeur when theres some sort of scuffle. i love scal, and i'll admit that he's getting paid too much but its not like he's some worthless idiot that sucks at basketball.

I was really happy with his performance in the game. He didn't try to do too much, did the dirty work, and made intelligent choices on the offensive end. I could stand seeing him do plenty more of that.

it does'nt bother me that scal does'nt like the chanting. sorry, the dude doesnt work as hard as the other guys in the off season. no way. it does'nt mean i hate the guy. his teammates seem to like him. they must love him in order to give him a pass with most guys really killing themselves to get better. the guy hit a couple of open shots. cool.
i would completely disagree that scal is not afraid to take the open shot. that's where he gets into trouble-when he hesitates . he hesitates then usually screws up the spacing on the court by doing something like upfaking(the defender NEVER goes for it)and dribbling too close to a celtic teammate and THEN passing it to him. you know, one of the "little things that does'nt show up in the boxscore".
having said all that, he's a celtic. ofcourse i'll root for him. i HATE the chanting. the only good thing about the chanting is it clearly identifies the red sox fans in the stands. the same people that were chanting rasheed's name with little time left in the game last year and looked like we were probably gonna lose. celts fans are either too p---ed or biting their nails to chant "wallace" when the pistons don't even have the ball.
i hate the crowd of fans that is more interested in insulting the city that the opponent represents. it's the sox/barstoolsports type crowd.

He looked like a different player than he was in the preseason- when open layups would ricochet to half court.  If he keeps it up, he will see a few minutes/game in the regular rotation.
