Posey was an absolute non-factor in this game as he has been in the other 2 games so far this year. He is seeing a big reduction in minutes, and his stats are awful. Is it possible that this is what the C's were thinking was going to happen to him if they gave him all that cash?! I know it is early in the year and he had a decent year last year, but man he doesn't look like the same player we had on that championship squad.

I think Posey is playing worse for NO because he's on a worse team being asked to play a different/bigger role that doesn't suit him as well.

If you put him back on the Celtics, he'd stil be able to do what he did for us in 2008. Fortunately, we don't need him, because in my opinion, Marquis is BETTER for the Celtics and actually an IMPROVEMENT over Posey.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Letting Posey go was never the problem, it was that the team didn't bring in an adequate replacement.

This off-season, Danny thankfully remedied that.

  • Yup
Posey the hustler looks a lot more like Posey the hacker now...especially when he's not adding any offense.
Yup

Posey was on the downswing of his career when he was here, and that's continued since he left.  Letting him go vs signing him to a 4 yr MLE was absolutely the correct decision.

But, like a lot of glue guy type players, he'll always look a lot better with better teammates around him.

I agree, however considering that we likely weren't going to win it all last year due to KG going down it's almost a blessing in disguise. We're not saddled with his contract, and we had the cash to go out and pay Sheed and Daniels. I'd rather have the two of them this year than Posey.

I don't know if I agree with that.

He was like 28 when he was here. That's when most players are in their absolute prime.

He was 30-31 during the season he was here.  That's prime for some guys, but is almost always when physical ability starts to slip.

Posey has a history of motivation issues in his past.  The most recent being when the Heat suspended him during the season for poor conditioning following their championship season.  Posey is 32 years of age which is the absolute prime for a role player such as him.  The difference is that he isn't playing with 3 Hall of Famers and he isn't playing with Shaq and Wade.....the guy never was a good individual player however he knows how to fit on a winner when properly motivated.  Very similar to a Robert Horry in that regard.

he was 30 and turned 31 during the season and got an offer from NO that would pay him about 7 million during the season he turns 35. That's pretty old for a guy who depends on defense and has been publicly chastised for showing up out of shape.  I think it was pretty apparent that he got himself in shape and signed cheap for a contender to get himself a last deal. i'm glad we took advantage of that situation and didn't pay the price afterward. Win-win situation.

I think it's unfair to Posey to judge him based on this game. Granted I don't watch a lot of Hornets games so I don't know if this is his normal level of play these days.
He was great role player for us. Maybe he would still be if he was a Celtic who knows? But the decision not to sign him to me made sense fiscally (replacing him with TA was what didn't make sense) so his play tonight doesn't really affect how I look back on it.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Bad start to the season from Posey. Hopefully he can get it together as the year goes on.
