It is time to make this deal happen.  A veteran SF who is a highly efficient scorer who can play team defense.  A two year contract makes sense.

Sounds good to me!

Speaking of Hermann WHO.  Is he restricted or unrestricted I've seen both in regards to him.  Also I understand he's a good defender and I'm sure he could defend bigger 3's and even some 4's (strong guy) could he cover the quicker more spry 3's as well or is that where TA, Giddens, Walker would come in?
Herrmann is an unrestricted free agent (according to ESPN).

I haven't seen him defend small forwards in the NBA so I can't really comment there. He's defended power forwards well in the NBA. Defended small forwards well in International ball. Come to think of it, albeit in some very short minutes so it's hard to say how he'd do in the future, he did defend Rashard Lewis well in the playoffs. He only played 7mpg and only in 4 games but he did a fine job. Good athlete, tough player, great shooter.

I'm surprised we've heard 0 rumors about teams wanting to bring this guy in.  He's obviously very skilled and is the second best Argentinian player in the NBA  ;D.  Maybe that's a part of it.  I'm assuming he's playing on the Olympic squad with Manu Ginobli so maybe he's just not been available, but you'd think people could find his agent at least?

The fact that you said Finley is better than Tony Allen makes me glad you are not affiliated with the Celtics organization.

Please provide any link of evidence that Tony Allen is better other than the "consistent" overrating of his play.  His turnover percentages are about 3X's Finley at his point in his career.  If Allen were to accept his poor dribbling skills and not drive to the basket consistently turning the ball over, he'd be a better player than Finley.  Since he doesn't and has the alarming turnover percentage he has ... it makes him a worse player. Suggesting otherwise is simply looking at Allen with rose colored glasses rather than seeing his shortcomings for what they are.

Michael Finley is 1/2 the player he used to be.  Tony Allen isn't even that until he harnesses his extremely low basketball IQ and stops creating opportunities for the other team.

Tony needs to cut back on his turnovers, but you have to keep it in perspective. It's not the be all and end all. If Tony played 24 minutes a game for us he'd commit about 1/2 a turnover a game more than his opponent. Again, it's not great, but you're getting a little carried away about it.

You do have to keep in mind the last second shots forced by other players when he dribbles himself into trouble and last second kicks it out. Those don't count in his stats but are his issues. You have to also keep in mind he throws a lot of awful shots up there at the rim because he is out of control that don't get counted in the turnovers. He often follows up these shots though so not as big of a deal as the other. The wasted opportunity at a wide open jumper outside that another player would often take and hit that he has no confidence in taking.

All these things add up and aren't counted in the official stats. I hope he regains some confidence in his outside shooting and is smarter with his drives while out there.

High turnover rates are compounded with a PER of around 10.7 (which isn't very good) is my concern.

Defensively, I like him ... but he creates more opportunities for the opposition while not providing much offensive return.

You have got to be kidding me. Micheal Finley is done in every aspect of the game. Any team who gives this guy a contract is a sucker. Finley just cannot play the game at this level anymore, simple as that. I'd much rather have Tony play all the back up minutes for Ray and Paul than put Finley into the mix. Also, Finley is too small too guard most 4's and power 3's in the league.

Finley would be a backup 3 on this team, so his inability to play against a 4 and a 1 is irrelevant.  Maybe Tony Allen could guard Shaq? That is about as relevant a discussion point.

Finley is as equipped to play power 3's than a 6'4" Tony Allen.

Unfortunately, if Tony stopped dribbling, he might be an even worse player, as he has no perimeter jump shot either.

Finley is an interesting option.  Offensively, he almost entirely replaces Posey, since he can train the three like Posey.  Defensively, as many of you already said, he wouldn't be able to do everything Posey did, but we wouldn't really need him to.  If he could just be around to provide a little aid on some bigger 3s when Pierce isn't in the game, he could be useful.

Unless anyone really has any faith in Darius Miles or someone like that, I can't really see how it hurts to sign him.  If midway through the season, someone becomes available in a buyout, we could always just cut someone on the current team to make room.
