For the most part, we all loved Posey, we're sorry to be seeing him move on and seeing that he's not going to the Lakers we all should wish him well.

With that said, I am sure the Celtics are looking at plan B or C depending on how you look at it.

My question is this; The "dirt dog" approach Posey had on the court, especially on defense made him the valuable player that he was.  Tony Allen was known for having the same defensive tenacity prior to going down to injury.  I have no idea about the road to recovery for TA, has he reached the point that he's the best he can be or is he still recovering and therefore has window of opportunity to improve his quickness and effectiveness?

If the answer is, that TA can physically be the player he was his second year then perhaps he's the answer to step into part of that role.  I think all the younger players benefited greatly by being exposed to Posey, Allen, KG and to a lesser degree PJ and the approach they took to the game.

Thanks
I love my kids, call me a sap - it's true.

Health aside, I do not think Tony contributes nearly as much to the team as this board would have you believe.

For every 1 steal, he had 1.5 turnovers
For every 1 assist, he had 1.5 fouls
For every stop, he made a bad rotation
He does not space the floor

Now, about those knees - I will let John Hollinger do the talking:

He was so dependent on his athleticism that any lingering effects from the knee injury are going to have a major negative impact on his career.
"All I have to know is, he's my coach, and I follow his lead. He didn't have to say anything in here this week. We all knew what we had to do. He's a big part of our family, and we're like his extended family. And we did what good families do when one of their own is affected." - Teddy Bruschi

When were those numbers from? If they were from last year then his lack of athleticism due to injury would cause those numbers. John Hollinger is a tool. His pre-season statistic(which are biased based on his opinions of basketball) had the Celtics being not very good. Then suddenly they are the best thing since sliced bred and finally in the playoffs he almost broke his neck jumping off the bandwagon. Carl Landry is the 3rd best pf in the league, really John?

I liked TA's quote after we won 17.

"I was a part of it"

As he knew we needed to be reminded.

this is a tired excuse. i hope we resign TA for less than the Qualifing offer and he proves me wrong, but the hard facts are guys usually don't rebound to the same level they had before not one, but TWO devestating knee injurys.

add that to his inability to protect the ball, and he is what he is. a good bench guy.

I've always like TAllen. He has his limits. But he's a brawler and all heart. He had way above noraml athleticism and so if he comes back to even 85-90% and fully healthy, he's goign to be above average atheltically.

I focus on this: after he came back from his first kneee injury and he finally got feeling confident physically again about 3/4 of the way through when Paul went down, he was on fire.

I think if he's stronger, which he seemd to start shwoing flahses off right at the end of the season...he could suprise us again

I dunno if you can even say that anymore. Medical technology esp involving the knees has advanced quite a bit, and it seems almost like basketball atheltes can bounce back from anything...we're not talking Shawn Livingston destroyed knee either.

Poor Jonathan Bender.

true to a point, but tony is also just not the same guy he was 4 years ago, and the knee injurys don't help.

it doesn't mean he wont reboudn into an above average athletics guy, but i think to expect him to rebound into the old "who cares if im not a great ball handler, ill smash it down your throat" tony allen is a little bit on the wishful thinking side.

Tony's inconsistancy was his biggest issue. Some games he would look like an all-star, other games he looked like a rookie. I'd sign him for cheap 2 year deal. Can be a solid bench player.

Tony Allens future with the Celtics is most likely to be determined by his price tag IMO. We was 'healthy' at the end of last year but we simply had better options at his position. We were at that point where we needed to play mistake free and Tony wasnt able to provide that consistently.

Now that we have lost Posey, Tony is again a very attractive piece as a defensive wing player....at the right price. There is also a very good chance he will not be retained if JR Giddens is the player I believe he is, being cheaper and 'undamaged' with the superior offensive skills. 8)

Tonys quality is direct proportional to the playing time he got.
His body and his mind need the time to adapt
