I bet if he would be okay with the vet's minimum the C's would probably sign him assuming his drug-use is in the past..

After signing another weak-side helper/shotblocker in POB, I don't see Andersen as a need.

Birdman is too light and under-weighted to defend the post. Paul Pierce is heavier than him. A guy like Pollard has about 50lbs on him (maybe less, I'm just guessing). There's only a way of a post defender upsetting this, having great technique. But I don't think he has what it takes, because he never did that job.

To elaborate a little bit, basically there are 3 ways of defending the man on the post:
- from behind, fighting the position; Birdman lacks the size and the lower body strength to do that.
- fronting; in the NBA this is only effective when facing a team who doesn't have good passers to the post and offensive rebounders. Also, it implies permanent pressure over the ball, and we don't do that always.
- side denial; Thibodeau likes this. The problem is that this solution implies very polished and accurate footwork from the defender (and also heavy scouting on the opponent players, weakside help, etc). I doubt Birdman masters this kind of footwork to make up for his lack of weight (OTH, I haven't seen him playing for 2 years, so I may be wrong).

So, if Birdman comes, he's not going to play 5 at the defense. Our defensive center rotation would probably be Perkins/BBD/KG and he'd guard the PF.

Why not sign the birdman too? He was likely not in game shape when he was reinstated and even with Patrick O'Bryant signing, we have very limited athletic BIG people. We're actually quite lucky that the Lakers bigs weren't interior tough guys - between Radmonivich, Odom, Bynum, Gasol we could be incredibly undersized next year - So if Perkins isn't on the floor and KG doesn't want to play C aand we're doing small ball, then Powe/Big Baby could provide minutes at the center position, but wouldn't you want the opportunity to put hands in the face of other's teams bigs when you gotta rest Perkins and KG because of foul trouble? Anderson would give you hustle off the bench and 5 more fouls. With PJ retiring and Pollard being a waste, I could see Anderson and Patrick O Bryant filling those rolls. I know Danny likes to keep his options open - only keeping 13 players last year, but he may not have the luxury this year with salary cap constraints and expiring contracts - better to keep the roster heavy early, rest the big three and if you cut somebody to pick up someone at the trade deadline, you do the deal - kinda like ASinge did last year with Wallace. Lots of guys looking for jobs and not many with a team that just won a ring. Anderson decides between Boston and New Orleans.

i think he'd be perfect, hes got something to prove (what better way than coming off the bench on a champion caliber team) we need good big men and he has shown flashes of potential, also hes an exciting player to watch and a fan favorite.

Aww I got excited seeing this in the "Latest Topic Posts" section, but I see this is the old thread. I still think Anderson is more likely to be successful this yr than O'Bryant, but honestly I have no idea what Ainge is doing. I thought he'd be thrilled that Chalmers fell to us, but he passed on him. I thought he'd be happy that a couple of his FA signings finally worked, but he wouldn't offer Posey even 3 yrs or House 2.

I think its hard to predict who Ainge will sign. When he signed O'Bryant, Pollard, or Scal, I don't think we heard rumors of this before it happened, so he's probably going to sign someone we're not even discussing. Maybe Googs again.
