Rondo has been such a pleasant surprise this season (although there are plenty of us who aren't surprsied and thought he just needed the minutes). What I love is his attitude and his hustle, and you can tell he'd rather get the assist than the bucket. He's going to be a GREAT player someday, I just know it.
Now, about his jumpshot. We all know it has improved, and I think he's worked on it very hard and it's paying off, and it has been all year, really. I think Ray Allenhas to credited with helping him there, to a certain extent. Ray's been a mentor to Rondo all year, and they seem to be friends, the OCD kids as they like to say.
What I love about Rondo's emerging jumpshot is that he actually has decent-looking form out there. Even if you have picture-perfect form you have to practice hard and be consistent, and Ray is a great guy to look up to if you want to learn how to shoot.
Kind of off-topic, but...
This got me thinking about two of the most physically gifted players in the world who both have awful-looking form on their jumpers: one is Andre Igouldala and.... (drumroll please)... the other is ..."King" Lebron James. If either one of these guys actually practiced shooting J's without A) Kicking their legs out in front of their hands B) Shooting on the way down from their jump, and C) Releasing the ball from over their heads while jumping way too high... well, they might actually have a consistent 'J" someday. With their type of release they should almost turn into pseudo "set shooters" like Larry Bird, or KG for that matter. Those guys had the funky over the head release, but they're great shooters because they didn't jump 3 feet veritcally and 2 feet forward on their release and they weren't always shooting dreadfully off-balance and alway shooting from a different part of their jump.
So basically, thank goodness somebody has Rondo practicing how to shoot the ball the right way, with the right form. It's already paying off, and he's such a great athlete that someday shooting might even turn into a strength for him. Until Lebron and Andre I. re-work their form they'll be streak-shooters at best.
