I watched JD a few times in Maine. Seems pretty physical,  maybe a bit like Jason Kidd. Pretty good handle and court vision.

His scoring is quite raw, but his physicality bodes well for his development. If he can hang in there while taking a beating he'll have a chance to improve.

Just kind of curious.. has this dude done anything to make anyone think he can really do anything? or is this just a hometown binky kind of deal? Honestly do not know much about him, but curious why folks think he can be a potential starter on a championship-caliber (hopefully) team.

He hasn't done anything at the NBA level yet, but a lot of us like the size, athleticism, and passing a lot. He's got some scoring ability and seems to want to play defense also. He just needs to put it together. Shooting consistency is a big issue too.

Fingers crossed! If we are to win a title, we probably need an unexpected contributor or unsung hero. Hopefully is is him or someone else. We need this 18th banner, crazy it's our second-longest franchise drought (86 to 08 and now 07 to 2023-2024).

You don't go with a project player at point guard for a team that is competing for a championship. There is no time to screw around with fringe players as the answer. Do that in rebuilding years.
Why not? I mean, we're screwing around with a fringe coach as the answer.

Remember Rondo in 2008 ?
He had more NBA experience, but is similar otherwise.
He may want to rethink the hair. Why look like a circus clown when you don't have to ?

He's had a year under his belt in the G-League where he matched Scoot's performance against the same players.  Do you consider Scoot a project?  I don't think Portland does!

He’s got nice tools but needs minutes still to refine his game. Not sure how many minutes he will get in Boston with the first team so maybe better to keep him in G league and let him continue to develop. Going forward with the new CBA, there will be heavy emphasis on player development especially from 2nd round picks. They need to start hitting more frequently on these types of guys if they are planning on having multiple max contracts.

Just because they drafted him doesn't mean Portland thinks he's not a project. In any case, what matters is whether Dame thinks he's a project. We will know soon.
