There is a difference in just spending money and spending money on something of value.

There is also the issue of adding a 17 million dollar player who is worth 17 million dollars if there is not enough play time for them to be satisfied.

Because at the moment, the team is looking for 10 minute in player that should not be playing in the playoffs.

I don't find it hard to believe Wyc here and I don't presume that all these great deals were on the table for them to pick from.  They didn't use the TPE because there wasn't a smart deal on the table seems more reasonable to me.  They didn't want to give up picks just to fill the TPE with a player that isn't that good.  And I understand that at some level, money is at least part of the issue but it doesn't mean that it was the issue with the Fournier TPE.

Don't these statements contradict each other, at least in terms of Wyc's "Money is not a consideration whatsoever" statement?

My point was that even if at some level, at some point, money is a factor, that it doesn't mean that it was the factor in whether or not to use the Fournier TPE on a hypothetical trade that may or may not have even been on the table.  I don't think there is any other instance where there was even a money choice was there?  We are over the cap.  The Celtics had the MLE and spent it.  They made a trade that added salary and brought in a player making over $20M (just didn't need to use a TPE).  The only quibble seems to be the TPEs.

TPE trades are not that easy to pull off.  You can only send out draft picks.  Money is not necessarily even an issue.  I am sure it is part of the equation but I don't see it as there were these deals offered and they passed because of money.  I feel the Celtics managed the off season very well so far.

Not exactly sure where to put this but it relates to spending:

Sean Deveney: Sources told @HeavyOnSports that @celtics PF Grant Williams is in line for a contract extension. BUT the team & GW’s camp huddled up early this summer, and there’ve been no meetings since. That’ll change. We’re told there’s “optimism” on an deal.

Robert Williams has since become a star at the center position, and the Celtics have benefited. His health remains a concern, though he has been said to be 100% here in the offseason, according to a source. Grant Williams has been more reliable in terms of health, and has played nearly 70 games per season since entering the NBA in 2019.

But Boston can head off any issues going forward by giving Grant Williams an extension now. The consensus around the league had been than Grant Williams would get what Robert Williams got, something in the range of four years and $48 million, and maybe around $55 million with incentives. Grant Williams will likely ask for more, though—four years and $55-60 million or so, according to rival team executives.
