The Boston Celtics are "not expected to have interest" in signing veteran forward Carmelo Anthony ahead of training camp, according to MassLive's Brian Robb, who added:

Quote
"That's not to say the team is done shaping the roster ahead of the preseason but Anthony isn't a priority at this point at names that could be brought in. Boston likes a lot of their internal replacement options from what I’ve heard and want to give those names the first crack at minutes."
Jeez why does brad want to give these scrubs chances.

Great. Counting on Hauser, Kornet and whatever other scrubs make the team to play important minutes seems like a real bad idea.

More guys on the bench that contribute absolutely nothing. Thomas, Ryan, Hauser, Kornet. Bench is just not good enough. Good guards. No wings and an underside grant Williams.

The team has options to trade and fill TPE slots after the season starts. They can adjust once they see who can play.

Good franchises find value.  Finding a Max Stus or a Bruce Brown or a Pat Connaughton makes a big difference. Hauser has more size than any of those guys and might provide some elite shooting.

I think they should also test drive Kabengele. He's got just the right athletic profile to be a playable defensive grinder in the NBA. If the C's can get him to provide a subset of what he did in summer league, he'd be great. We don't know yet if he can do any of those things in league play, but its worth finding out.

If Hauser and Kabengele can cover 10-15 minutes when asked and be productive within their skill sets, that gives Stevens the freedom to wait for the right opportunities. Looking at guys like this isn't desperation. Its smart roster management.

Carmelo is probably not a viable wing replacement at this point, right?  So he is more of a replacement for Gallinari?  In that case, the "others" they are referring to are likely Noah Vonleh and Bruno Caboclo.  I think Vonleh will prove to be useful enough in a limited bench role.  I have no idea what to expect from Caboclo.

A wing/forward/SF is still a need.  Hauser is that depth behind Tatum right now.  But I am not sure Carmelo would add to the depth at that position.  Seems he is more PF/swing these days.  Still potentially useful.  Surprised LAL or BKN have not picked him up.
