Jaylen Brown might not be the only player leaving Beantown.

Recent rumors suggest White could be on the way out if the right offer comes along.  Teams are sniffing around.

3 possible trade partners are mentioned - Minnesota, Dallas, Cleveland.  But what would we get in return?

Would you trade Derrick White if you were Brad Stevens?  Who would you target in return?

A little click-baity.

But yes, White is obviously available, particularly if a starting level PF was available.

This is typical Hardwood Houdini trade speculation and nothing more. Nothing to see here.

People sure have short memories. Isn't Derrick White one of the reasons for the huge improvement in the Celtics second half of the season ? Everyone was in love with his role as a facilitator and playmaker, which this team needs badly.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

That article is like one of those hypothetical Greenly trades that probably arose from NBA2k  ;D

Of course most of the players are available...for the right return and if Brad thinks it will make the team better. I can't blame them for trying to generate content though, the trade market is very quiet right now, probably because KD has effectively frozen it. I wouldn't say he's attracting trade interest...just that he's a tradable piece that invites people to speculate.

But...if we are doing hypotheticals, here are the players I would consider a fair return and are getting paid in that $15m-$17m range

OG Anunoby
Mitchell Robinson

I would have added Christian Wood to that list but he's going to be a UFA next season so may be a rental.

100% but people think his ‘value’ (i.e. what he was traded for) is high for his on court production and he’s a “movable piece” because he’s not a core part of the team. I’m not one of those people, but I can see the argument.
"...unceasingly we are bombarded with pseudo-realities manufactured by very sophisticated people using very sophisticated electronic mechanisms. I do not distrust their motives; I distrust their power. They have a lot of it."

He was easy to fall in love with after watching Shroeder for half a season.  Didn't we win like 10 games in a row before trading for White?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

Yeah, we had already begun our turnaround well before the White and Theis trades. White is a nice player with a good attitude, but he was somewhat disappointing - especially in the playoffs. He should definitely be available, but we shouldn’t be desperate to move him.

White had trouble getting comfortable on the Celtics, that was clear, but he still contributed. I think the scouts and GMs around the league have an understanding of his value.

What has changed is that we now have Brogdon so our need for White has decreased making it easier to trade him.  I could see us trading him for more depth at wing or big.

Sounds like a "wish into existence" deal.  Seems like lots have soured on White and would LOVE to ship him out of town.

A white for Markannen trade makes sense for both teams. White would be a great fit as a secondary distributor, and Markannen plays a bit out of position for Cleveland. It would even out both rosters.

I like White though and am fine keeping him.

Interesting idea. Markkanen has been kind of a tease over the years but certainly is a position of need, a good young big who can shoot.  Gallnari is that, except for the young part I guess.

I would rather keep White and trade Pritchard if it comes down to it.  But I bet no team is clamouring for Pritch.
