What do you guys dislike about Scal?

I love having a self deprecating former player on the broadcast. He's funny and knows heaps about the game.

I don't see the issue past things like "I don't like his laugh" which I heard someone say here.

Love Scal. I think he’s great. Love his player insight.

Mike is obviously a legend but Grande is fantastic too. Celtics fans are so lucky with the options of Mike and Scal or Grande Maxwell. Other teams commentators are often miserable.
You actually think Scal is funny? Personally I think his commentary is cringe worthy.

Don’t you know?  Hating scal is the thing we’re supposed to do.  For me, he fine.  Good even.

I’ve become neutral On Scal as of late and he’s certainly better than Donny Marshall was, however, In the not so distant past, he has been extremely rude and condescending towards Abby and Forsberg. Case in point with the below link(see comments). Few instances with Mike Gorman during broadcasts as well. He’s been better as of late, though.

Maxwell on the other hand has a huge personality (a little crazy), is knowledgeable as well and has been working with Grande for years. They have excellent chemistry. He’s not Tommy, but he might be the closest thing.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Wow I was shocked to see this thread actually. I only watched the first half, but I thought Grande was awful to listen to. I thought he was trying too hard and needlessly ripping on scal. When I turned on the pre game I thought it was Mannix. I was disappointed to see it was Grande. I didn’t enjoy is commenting.

He’s very good. Once Mike decides to retire, Grande needs to be the replacement. Would love for Maxwell to join him as well. Those two have excellent chemistry and I like that Cedric is a little crazy, too.
This. I love Maxwell. But it looks like NBC has this infatuation with Scal. I think Scal is awful at what he does. He literally ruins the broadcast.

Agreed.  Listening to Scal anymore just gets on my nerves.  I get that he’s there to give his opinion but he’s just so abrasive about it.  Thank God Gorman is there or I’d have to turn the sound off.

I don't have a problem with Scal.   I really like Max but if Max became the color guy on TV I think it would take about a day for people here to criticize him.

I think Grande assumed viewers knew him well, and were used to his sense of humor...He's great on the radio and should take over for The Great Gorman when he's ready to retire---he makes a lot of mistakes these day.

I agree, and would only add that he sees and can say in detail what just happened; most ‘color commentators’ can’t, and the few that can are mostly former head coaches.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021
