Hes not a hard worker. But he's always been in shape, doesn't have the Fat gene like Antoine or Zion williamson though. Not too worried about his conditioning.  Worried about his soft mental approach.

Little silly here kg. He has never been away from a team and not training with them for a year either (even when he was injured he worked with the team). Also, we seeing guys skipping a game or two for conditioning when they miss a week for Covid. The question isn’t whether he will be in basketball shape (he won’t) it is far how he is away from it. Pro athletes in every sport consistently say that there is no replication for game run for being in shape. Very fair to wonder if he comes to a team in February how will he perform.

Not silly at all CC. It's not hard to look at a guy and see he's in very good shape of course it will take him weeks or more to get into 5 on 5 shape similar to Kyrie,  but Ben is a very high level athlete,  much better shape than Irving for example.

With Ben it's much more between the ears than his body and fitness level.

Are you saying Ben is in shape based on paparazzi photos? He does not have any film of him from anything I have seen. (Maybe I missed something, mainly track it through liberty ballers). Kyrie is actually kind of a good example of what I am talking about. He has put up some counting stats but they have been worse in the two games he played from what I have seen.

I'm saying I have never seen Ben Simmons ever in bad shape. Never have I seen him look like Antoine Walker, Ben has always been in much better shape than Kyrie.

He has to keep a six pack for all those Hollywood model types he likes. He definitely takes care of his body.  He's ready to play 30 plus minutes per night as soon as he gets his legs underneath him.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I'm not saying that I'd do it, but PHI was 1st in the conference last season with these two guys playing the most mpg on the team and as their 2nd and 3rd best players. Depending on how you feel about Tatum vs Embiid, this may not be as bad as people are making it out to be. It's not like we are planning for Al to be a long-term fixture in BOS. As far as Al goes btw, he would definitely need to be shipped to a 3rd team - I wouldn't do that to him.

Trades of this Size rarely happen, especially within the same conference.

But would you?

Celtics Trade: Al Horford, Jaylen Brown, Juancho Hernangómez, Dennis Schroder

76ers Trade: Tobias Harris, Ben Simmons, Shake Milton

New Rotation:

PG: Ben Simmons (Payton Pritchard)
SG: Marcus Smart (Shake Milton/Aaron Nesmith)
SF: Jayson Tatum (Josh Richardson/Romeo Langford)
PF: Tobias Harris (Grant Williams)
C: Robert Williams III (Enes Freedom)

i think people need to give up on the idea of Ben Simmons as a point guard.  I know his ball handling, court vision and passing ability are highly impressive...but I just don't see how a guy who truly cannot shoot (not just a poor shooter, he literally cannot shoot AT ALL) could ever succeed at a perimeter position in the NBA.  I can't think of any cases in the past 20-30 years where that has happened, and the league is more dependant on outside shooting right now then it's ever been before

If you want to truly excel with Simmons on your roster then I really think you need to use him as at the center spot, where you can keep him near the basket on the offensive end to help hide his shooting limitations.  There are plenty of defensive minded bigs (Rudy Gobert, Rob Williams, Clint Capella, Steven Adams) who have been able to excel in the modern NBA despite having zero outside shooting ability.  Simmons is an above average rebounder, a decent finisher in the paint, an elite floor-runner, and he can defend all 5 positions at a high level.  I see no reason why he couldn't also have success as a center in the modern NBA.  Put shooters / scorers around him and run some of the offence through him as an interior playmaker (much like we did with Al Horford in the past) and I think he could have a strong impact.

Only way I can see this proposal working is if we found a way to keep Scroeder and made our starting 5 something like this:

PG: Dennis Schroeder
SG: Josh Richardson
SF: Jayson Tatum
PF: Tobias Harris
C: Ben Simmons

Or even better, if we could keep Jaylen Brown and instead make an offer of Rob Williams, Josh Richardson, Marcus Smart (+ picks if needed) and run with with:

PG: Dennis Schroeder
SG: Jaylen Brown
SF: Jayson Tatum
PF: Al Horford
C: Ben Simmons

Problem is that Simmons is also a bit soft, and a bit of a whiner, and despite his limitations I think he's fixated on the idea that he's a PG.  I'm not sure if he would happily accept a role change.
