Moses Brown made way more sense in that roll.
Care to detail that opinion?  Both are scrubs at this point.

Moses Brown has been a starter in the NBA producing good stats across the board.  Fernando has not, even the 13 games he has started, he had 1 double double and played 20 minutes in a game only a few times.  They just aren't the same class of player in actual on court production.  On top of that Fernando is over a full year older, is shorter, and regressed significantly from his 1st to 2nd year.

Fernando will be out of the league when his contract is up and if he gets waived at some point this year, I don't think anyone would sign him.  That I just don't believe is the case with Brown.

I agree that Moses (20/20) Brown has shown way more in the NBA than Fernando but he also had a much more conducive opportunity in OKC.  Straight up, I prefer Moses but we traded Moses Brown for Josh Richardson, not Bruno Fernando.  How good or not Moses Brown is or isn't should not have any impact on the future role (roster spot) that Fernando may have on the Celtics.  Let's stay focused.   ;)

Bruno Fernando is trying to make the team, playing for his NBA life.  I hope he does make it.  I am rooting for him.

I think you're overstating Brown.  The Celtics wanted to move a little salary in the Richardson deal, and Dallas didn't want to take any back.  Brown's non-guaranteed $500k was what they agreed on -- he was treated like salary fodder same as Fernando.  It's unlikely he'll make it through training camp with the Mavs.  Maybe they find somewhere else for him, but I expect him to be released.

all reports I've seen have said that Dallas actually wanted Moses Brown, which is why the initial trade reports were just Richardson and not Brown.  Dallas then requested Brown, which is why he was added after the fact.

And I know this is the Mavs site, but I suspect they don't speak quite so glowingly if they didn't actually want Brown.  https://www.mavs.com/mavsacquirebrown/

For sure, the Mavs believe Brown is a player who can play with, grow with and thrive with Doncic. That’s why they worked tirelessly to make Saturday’s move come to fruition.

And then the next day they picked up Cauley-Stein’s option to be their backup center and a couple days later resigned Boban to a multi-year deal to be their third-string center.  Seems like they’d have let at least one of them go if they had real interest in seeing what Brown could do.

... regressed significantly from his 1st to 2nd year.

Sticking to the debate on Fernando, he actually played a fair amount in his rookie season (2019-20), for a second round pick.  56 games, 13 starts, 12.7 min/gm, 52% FG%, 4.3 pts, 3.5 rebs.  That is not bad for a 2nd round pick.  The thing that happened though is ATL added Gallinari, Capella, and Okongwu (pick #6 overall) for the start of 2020-21.  There were no minutes for Fernando.  Rookie first round pick Okongwu basically replaced Fernando and played 50 games, 12 min/gm, 4.6 pts, 3.3 rebs.  Just for perspective, Grant Williams is a career 4.0 pts, 2.7 rebs in 16.5 min (14 starts in 2 seasons).  Semi Ojeleye is career 3.5 pts, 2.1 rebs in 14.6 min over 4 seasons (24 starts).

I suspect that what the Celtics are hoping is that it is not that Fernando regressed but rather they just liked their first round pick more than their second round pick (whose production was actually no better than what Fernando did his rookie year).  Young players tend not to regress without some external factor.  I don't know what potential Fernando has or what kind of player he will become but I am surprised by how many are willing to declare him a bust so quickly when he has essentially produced about the same as Semi and Grant, when given the chance.

One other trivia item, in the 2019-20 season with the Hawks, Fernando played a total of 133 minutes on floor with Jabari Parker (24 games).  They were +20 in those minutes, the second best 2-man +/- overall.

Traded for Richardson though, so adding Fernado is insurance.  We need an extra big until Rob proves he can be healthy.   Al is up there too.  I much rather than Bruno at the five hole than you know who playing small ball five with his 2 RPG
