He’s got good instincts, but he was a truly horrific shooter from all levels.  That’s going to take multiple seasons to fix most likely.

Let's look at Romeo vs Marcus, this is what will show you why we move Marcus in the off season:

This is their second season:

Smart:  61 games played, .348% FG, .253% 3PT, .427% 2PT, 4.2 RPG, 1.5 SPG, 9.1 PPG
Romeo: 18 games played, .356% FG, .278% 3PT, .390% 2PT, 1.9 RPG, .3 SPG, 3.1 PPG

Not a great comparison, but definitely some positive numbers for Romeo in a limited showing.  I agree, I think he slides into a starting role when they deal Smart to ATL.   :D

As another poster said, it really was a unique year, in terms of being able to bring a guy back from injury and having him find a flow. There were hardly any scrimmages, no G-League, etc, so it had to be difficult to get comfortable shooting if it’s not a strength and your opportunities were limited.

In the playoffs he played 25 minutes for 3 straight games (he only exceeded 25 minutes twice in the regular season, weeks apart), and the shooting splits from those games aren’t bad — 44/38/100 on 8 FGA and 5 3PA per game.  It’s not crazy to think that he was able to get into a rhythm that he otherwise wasn’t able to get into with sporadic minutes and attempts.  Sure it was a small sample size, but he attempted almost as many 3s in those 3 games (16) as he did in the regular season (18), so it’s a small sample size for his regular season also, even though it’s spread over more games.

Is it a lock that Romeo is ready to turn into at least an average shooter? No.  Is there evidence that says if he has a healthy offseason and training camp this might happen?  Yes.

small sample size exaggerates this.  His numbers the last month are trending in the right direction.

I’m still hopeful , at least he is not a particular liability on defense like Kemba who is at this point a court ornament to shoot over.

I would argue that he is a plus defender. I think his defensive upside is higher than Brown or Tatum.

75% free throw shooting average is horrific? Based on what standard? It's probably close to league average.

77% is the league average

All this talks of his strengths just like Robert Williams are moot if they can't stay healthy.   That is the number one knock on both of them.

Hopefully Romeo has just been unlucky.  He’s had a couple of contact injuries that required surgery to fix.  Both were injuries that could be played through to a point, and he did play through his entire college season instead of just shutting it down and getting ready for the draft, which cost him an offseason and slightly delayed start to his rookie year.

The one in the bubble was unfortunate because there was such a shortened offseason.  In a normal year he might’ve missed no time, and then of course he got Covid immediately as he was ready to return to the court.  But for a pandemic he might’ve missed no time this year, rather than 2/3 of a season.

Fingers crossed his bad luck is behind him and he got a vaccine.

I think the biggest issue I have with Romeo is he seems aloof. He kind of seems unaware at times of rotations, when not to foul, etc.

I just think he's so far away from being an NBA level offensive player that it's going to be very difficult to get him regular minutes on a team that's trying to win games.
He was a decent enough offensive player against Brooklyn. Average shooting from the perimeter is a promising sign. He's only 21 years old. At the same age defensive specialists like Thybulle were putting up 9PPG in college.

I think he could be alright after a full offseason. If he can stay healthy. His final game of the season was incredibly promising

I don't think he has ever had an off season to work out with all the injuries.
