This would be the type of trade that kicks the can down the road

Not if you use the pick to add another current NBA guy, like for example -- this: https://tradenba.com/trades/sy74uq-Wh (Collins)

or this: https://tradenba.com/trades/HeWVAmTOs (Grant)

Guess I’m a little surprised neither of these deals even got a sniff (of that no one yelled at me for how dumb they are).

My preference would be to keep Brown, Tatum, Williams and Pritchard, and trade everyone else — but not sure what value that load of junk can actually net us.

This is what a baller would do (throw in the 2025 pick and/or swaps if necessary):

https://tradenba.com/trades/b50xuetX1

We instantly go from one of the worst front courts to one of the best, and give Tatum his BBB (best basketball buddy), who just happens to be leading the league in PPG.

Meanwhile, we only have to face Jaylen twice per year unless we meet in the Finals. No hard feelings either because he gets to still play for one of the best clubs in the league in the town he played college ball.

A dynamic that cannot be overlooked: It’s a players’ league and we gotta keep our superstar (Tatum) happy so let’s give him his BBB. If we were able to salary dump Kemba and move pieces, we could possibly add a big free agent in 2021, 2022 or 2023 to play alongside our core of Tatum, Beal and Wiseman because of Wiseman’s rookie contract.

Sorry, in what way do we instantly improve our front-court? By adding a wildly overpaid shooter, or a rookie?

Wiseman is a number two pick rookie who is only 19 and is going to dominate the paint next season and the rest of the 2020s.

Theis/Bertrans

Is a HUGE improvement to our front court. That’s adding 18-20 PPG to our front court.

Tatum + Beal > Tatum + Brown if only for the BBB effect. That’s another 8-10 PPG added to our team to offset the loss on defense for going from Brown to Beal (Beal is an average defender whereas Brown is a good/great defender, so almost always pair Beal with Smart, and have Tatum slotted at SF).

That's... that's not really how the maths works. Williams is currently a better defender, rebounder and passer than Wiseman. Wiseman has more potential, sure. But it's potential. It could at some stage be an upgrade.

Bertans has also been trash this year. Pretty evident case of a guy playing out of his mind for a contract, getting said contract (which is a ludicrous one) and reverting back to what he was. He can shoot and that's it. Can't rebound, pass or defend.

Not to mention this "upgrade" of our front-court is adding about $21m a year to the salary of said front-court...

You may be right about Bertans, but it’s also possible his supporting cast this year (Westbrook) is not ideal. He feels like the kind of guy taking a breather after earning his big contract (pandemic is wearing a lot of us down and can only imagine what it is doing to Europeans living/working in America) who could have monster seasons under Stevens (after C19).

R. Williams is raw potential, even more so than Wiseman, but Wiseman has the potential to be the starting center of the eastern conference all-stars in 2-3 seasons. Timelord as the starting center of the east? Timelord has a better chance of meeting Dr. Who in TARDIS.

Timelord I will wager will be a starting center very shortly.   Whether he is an all star is debatable.   I don't see it either but he can be solid.

This trade is very much illustrative of the video game trade mindset , GG.   Lots of parts, flashy and brazenly unrealistic, this has a better change happening on NBA live than in the real world.

Wiseman is all over the place in terms of potential.   Here is his game logs, typical rookie uneven performance.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/wisemja01/gamelog/2021

Look at this game logs, inconsistency seems to be the most consistent thing about him.  While the potential to be good is there I don't seem the greatness you allude to thus far.

I don't think Rob is a problem area for us.   I think it is glaring lack of bench production and talent drop off once our starters rest.   This does not fix that one bit and we would still be a paper tiger once our starters come out.   We need depth and bench production.
