I read the article and I in no way understood it to be that the players didn't want to promote it due to conspiracy theories.

The Tuskegee experiments weren't even mentioned.

Players asked questions about how it would affect their performance and concerns about not knowing the long term effects from taking the virus. Players also weren't completely cool with doing PSA's with the NBA on vaccinations due to the NBA doing the players no favors by having the All-Star game.

I'm just not getting what you are selling regarding that article.

TP.

Its reductive to assume that the hesitance over the vaccine is simply because of race and mistrust.

I'm black and my concerns about the longterm effects of the vaccine isn't "bEcAuSe Tuskegee". I have an autoimmune disorder that requires immune suppressing drugs - which have their own laundry list of long term side effects. My specialist can't advise me on the long term outlook of the vaccine in relation to the medications I take because there's little to no data on it. That's the downside of having a vaccine or medication rushed through the usual process, a lack of information.
A large majority of the NBA's players are African-American, a community that has been known to be distru****l of vaccines, in large part, due to the Tuskegee syphilis experiment and other examples of treatment for their community.

One player agent estimated that "at least half, if not more" of the league's players are reluctant to take the vaccine. Another agent said the number will drop following these informational sessions.

“Guys are a bit cautious to get it,” said one player, under the age of 30, who like the rest of the team personnel interviewed for this story was granted anonymity to speak freely about a sensitive subject inside locker rooms.

“I’m not sure,” said a coach, when asked if he’d take the vaccine if it was offered to him. “I think people who need it should get it first.”

“Our players are agnostic at best at this point,” said a team executive.

They think the Tuskegee experiments are still happening or something. Sad that people believe  conspiracy theories like This. Believing  such a theory is a slap in the face to the scientific communities that helped develop these vaccines

This is pure speculation: Im also assuming kyrie is playing a big role being the VP OF THE players union, he's probably spreading misinformation behind the scenes to the league players. This has his name written all over it imo

Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems you believe players should endorse something they're uncertain of because someone else told them to? If someone has questions over the efficacy of a quickly developed vaccine, why should they be forced to endorse it?

i have never said force them. However, they have no proof that there is “poor efficacy” of the vaccine.

That's simply not true, there are widespread reports of significant side-effects and even death post-vaccine injection. I'm neither here nor there on the subject but to pretend there aren't significant concerns about COVID vaccines is disingenuous.

If players don't want their names attached to the campaign, I don't have an issue with it.

What exactly do you think Silver was referring to

Quote
"In the African American community, there's been enormously disparate impact from COVID ... but now, somewhat perversely, there's been enormous resistance [to vaccinations] in the African American community for understandable historical reasons," Silver said recently. "If that resistance continues, it would be very much a double whammy to the Black community, because the only way out of this pandemic is to get vaccinated."

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson

So now "enormous resistance [to vaccinations] in the African American community for understandable historical reasons" equals conspiracy theory?

Unreal.

I was commenting on your assertion that Tuskeegee wasn't mentioned in the article.  I ask again, what do you think Silver was referring to, if not Tuskeegee?

the “historical reasons” are history. Not the present. Unless the players presently “theorize” there is still a “conspiracy” against them (such as the Tuskegee exp), there is no valid argument to be against the vaccines due to “historical reasons” hence why it’s a conspiracy theory.

If they want NBA players to promote their products they can sign a sponsorship deal.
