D-
And only saved from being an F by the drafting of PP. I do think he'll be our lead PG very soon and become a fan favorite, and to pick him up at #27 when he was a projected second rounder was great.
Now that's out of the way . . . pretty much everything else was an unmitigated disaster. We essentially swapped Kanter and Wanamaker for TT and Teague. We were not forced to do this. But the players we let go are substantially better than what we brought in. Teague is useless, worse than Tremont Waters. Watching him dribble the ball off his foot last game, then throw a pass directly to the other team, then dump the ball off to PP with 2.5 seconds on the shot clock after dribbling for 12 seconds . . . in short minutes a game he makes a highlight reel of disastrous plays. If Brad wasn't terrified of his players he'd bench Teague for the rest of the year. TT has been our worst big by a wide margin. Honestly, I'd give the bulk of minutes ot Theis and Timelord and start putting in Tacko for 5-7 minutes a game in non-garbage time. Design a specific defense around his unique abilities and throw it out when the other team least expects it and see what happens. I thought he would have destroyed those Pistons with Plumlee out.
The trade of Bane for nothing was horrific. He's shooting like 48% from 3 and might be the steal of the draft when it's all said and done (over PP, if we're honest). We needed shooting and essentially chose to give a slot on the team to Waters and Edwards over Bane. Whoops.
Jury is still out on Nesmith but early returns are not great. I can't believe he can't see the floor over Carson Edwards. That's a pretty [dang]ing indictment, though Brad is really weird about his rotations and who he plays.
The whole Hayward thing was a disaster, but I suppose we have to wait and see what we use the exception for. Bringing in Barnes for relatively little plus the exception might salvage our season, give the Jays the help they need. Please do it, Danny. Though I suspect you're going to blow it on some 7 point a game undersized 'character' guy like PJ Tucker.
The bench as it is constructed is an affront, and that's on Danny. His fascination with 'good' guys has left us devoid of NBA talent. Brad may think he can spin straw into gold, but he can't. Winning in the NBA comes down to talent. Either you got it or you don't. A good system may beat a horribly coached team with talent, but there are enough good coaches in the NBA that you'll never be one of the elites so long as you're filling out your roster with 5'10 'good guys' who were inefficient volume scorers in college.
