Hield will be a lot easier and cheaper to acquire, so I'd rather have him, but honestly I'd rather neither.  I think Barnes or Collins makes a lot more sense.

That Collins kid is getting the max next year and it won't be from The Celtics. I like Barnes as well.
It would be from the Celtics if they acquired him and I'd be fine with that.

They'd have 4 max contracts. The luxury tax would be massive. What's Collin's max? Collins turned down 90 million from the Hawks already.
So.  They've paid the tax for what would clearly be inferior teams in the past.  No reason to think they wouldn't do it for a better team in the future.  And Walker can be traded if it is a real issue for expiring contracts so it would be a 1 year problem if they didn't want to do it long term.

You think Collins is worth the max? You think Kemba has trade value at this point?
Maybe.  Yes.

I haven't seen enough of Collins. He looked great tonight.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Lavine over Hield for sure. At that point you obviously need to look to dump Kemba, though.

And Collins over both. If he won't agree to terms with the Cs, you match his offer sheet. Again, you would look to move Kemba to a team that struck out in FA.

I’d be thrilled with Lavine and I’d give up just about anything outside the jays including multiple picks . But I also realize that would be 3 nearly max dudes ( eventually all max guys) that were riding with. So maybe they think that money needs to be used elsewhere but at least on paper I’d love the jays and Lavine.

We don't need another lead scorer. We need complimentary two way players.

I don't think we need either.

Take the 20+ million you'd spend in cap space to add and keep one of those guys and use it on multiple experienced, consistent supporting players that complement Jay & Jay.

I said LaVine, but I agree neither guy is actually the straw that'd stir the Cs drink. At such a salary level, I think it's more important the Cs improve at the 1, 4, or (to a lesser degree) 5.

I'd love Buddy Hield. A high level outside shooter (prolific + accurate) would do wonders for this team's offense.

I'd prefer Buddy over LaVine because Buddy understands how to play team basketball and would fit better alongside two high usage scorers in Jaylen & Tatum than LaVine would. LaVine would challenge them as top offensive options and would create inner-competition on the team for shot attempts and opportunities harming team chemistry.

The reason why LaVine would harm chemistry is that his lower level of decision making makes him unsuited to taking touches away from Tatum and Jaylen so every time he challenges them and takes power away from them, LaVine hurts the team in order to improve himself.

I like all three of these trades and think they would all help The Celtics:

The Third one on here is my least favorite.
