My offseason plan would be sign two FAs (one MLE one BAE) and make a trade using our draft picks. The trade is harder to make without much salary to play with, but what does a package of two firsts this year Semi, Porier, Romeo get us? Anything in the 7-9 million range worth going after?

That was my interpretation of the cap rules and I might be wrong but:

The biannual exception is limited to two year deals. Also you can’t use it if your payroll crosses the luxury tax apron.
For instance if the luxury tax is $135M the apron is at $140M and you have 13 players under contract for a combined guaranteed $139M you can not sign a 14th player with the BAE...

There might be surprise sellers on the trade market this offseason. Here are my sleepers:
-Houston - try to gain some youth ... so maybe get PJ Tucker from them for the bucks pick and 5-6 mill of outgoing salary
-Washington - Ish Smith - marginal upgrade over Wanamaker but still an upgrade - $4-5 mill of out going salary and maybe pick 46 and a future second rounder
-Orlando - Terrence Ross - marginal upgrade to the bench but has playoff experience ... will have to scrap $10mill of salary including the bucks pick

I’d look for a vet to help rein our guys in. Someone with championship experience. A vet who doesn’t see a minute on the court is more valuable than Vincent Poirier, IMO

Other than that, the rotation is fairly solid. Hard to make moves without shaking anything up. Obviously you want to replace end of bench guys like Semi but you’re not hitting any home runs there.

Unpopular opinion, but if we were to shake anything up, I think we still need an upgrade on bigs. A real change-of-pace big or someone who can clean up for our perimeter heavy attack. Tristan Thompson would be a great addition, although his playmaking/IQ makes me uneasy.

I would also trade for a knock down shooter, in the mold of like a Kyle Korver. Does nothing else but shoot. We have way so many versatile guys who can do it all but we need specialists. The impact of Duncan Robinson on the court has been huge for the Heat, regardless if he’s shooting or not. We see guys like Redick make the same impact for their teams.

1. Move up in this draft and get Tyrese Halliburton.

2. Develop Romeo Langford into a rotation player

3. Have Tatum, Brown and hopefully Robert Williams continue expected development.


That makes us the best team in the league for the foreseeable future

I also like PJ Tucker as a trade target, I like Baynes, T.Thompson, maybe even Giles as FA big-men targets (but I believe they would require full MLE, especially the first two guys).
I don’t know to much about collage ball, but I think Kira Lewis Could be a nice pick-up.
Due to his struggles defensively I am becoming open to exploring the trade market for Kemba as well. Could something like this work:
BOS out: Kemba in: Jrue, JJ Reddick
NOP out: Jrue, JJ Reddick
PHI out: Harris in: Kemba. (or Horford and a pick instead of Tobias)?
Or would the Pelicans prefer to Simply get Kemba? Would we have to add a pick? I think I want size from our guards, Kemba is getting killed on switches
Either way, the season isn’t done yet. Let’s learn a lesson from the Nuggets and complete our own comeback! Go Cs!!!

I think trading our marquee free agent after a) him emerging as the main leader of this group, b) him lifting the morale and chemistry of this team as much as anyone and c) him finally getting a taste of playoff experience would do some serious damage to Danny's reputation amongst players.

That being said, I still think there are potentially good situations he could be traded to. I would just likely feel bad about it. Looking at our 3rd starting PG in 3 years would be annoying to deal with from a coaching and playing perspective too, I imagine, as there won't be any Team USA experiences to help speed up the bonding process
