Posts like these make me love going back and finding posts like:
God, Ainge is so bad. What a useless signing.

Welcome to your 2019/20 Boston Hornets.

And

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

We don't have a future now, anyway. With AD, at least you had a shot.

The better question, however, is why we were not in a better position to acquire Davis, considering Danny had years to prepare for this trade.

So much more fun. You'll note how posters like this disappear whenever the season is going well. Our two wings look like studs, our All-NBA free agent signing looks like a better fit than our previous starting point guard, and our previous marquee FA looks like an All-Star again.
How long has his absence been?

"Brown & Tatum Starting To Look Like Our Future"

Imagine that. Danny made two brilliant draft picks and should have been looking at these guys as our future all along instead of merely pieces to move for players who didn't want to be Celtics to begin with. Though neither Brown or Tatum will ever be as good as Larry Bird, they remind me a little of the early 80's when Bird and Max, paired as our young star forwards, led us to the 1981 title.

Yeah, at least now we don't have to deal with another year of "will this guy stay or leave after the season ends" drama. It was the case with Kyrie and others last season, and no doubt would have been the case with Anthony Davis here.

I would have loved AD, but it seems he was hell-bent on joining Lebron in LA. Nothing much we can do.

Agreed all the way around - I forgot about how playing under the constant possibility of just being a trade quantity affects a player during the season in so many ways - none of them good (unless you play for the Knicks). If I were Anthony Davis, the thought of playing for the league's most successful franchise and being the one to lead them through their next era of titles would have been all I needed to know. But the millennials don't give a wit about tradition - they want sunshine, glitz and half of Hollywood coming to their games.

BTW, I am still bothered about the story that Garnett advised Davis to go to the Lakers and play with Lebron. He, as much as anyone, should know how special it is to be a Boston Celtic. It changed his entire career and the way he will be perceived historically. .............. would have thought he would have said to Davis, "Yeah, LA and Lebron are exciting, but you won't understand until you go there what it is like to play in Boston. Nothing else compares."
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Brown and Tatum are not only the teams' future, they are its' present. This team is in excellent shape and there is more to come! I still feel that Brown has a chance to go down as an all time great player. Maybe not in terms of Bird, MJ, Magic but a name that will still be remembered 20 years later. One like Richmond, Dantley, English and possibly even better. The guy has all the tools and the intelligence to go with it.

Would be nice is one or both got those assist numbers up.  Two and three per game is not very good.

I think we can cut some slack for Brown, he doesn't have a large enough offensive role to average 4-5 APG. The fact that he's averaging 2-3 APG with some really advanced passes mixed in almost every game is something really impressive imo. Tatum's case is a bit more concerning, his vision is really subpar atm.

I thought they've been our "future" for some time.  I'll admit when Jaylen got his 4/115 I thought it was way too much too soon and would've waited until he got an offer in RFA then decided.  But, as of now, I think I was wrong.  He's impressed the hell out of me so far this year.

Tatum is still on my overrated list until I actually see something. Averaging 20points but taking 16+ to do it is unimpressive. JB on the other hand I LOVE. He is the true franchise player of the future and he is definitely getting better.

They've been our future as people have said, now the future is looking pretty bright. Especially since Jaylen has looked good enough that we'll be very happy he signed his extension.

Now Tatum just has to make some dang layups lol. (overall Tatum's been awesome just needs to hit his shots on drives)

It wouldn’t hurt if he got more calls, either. Despite more drives and drawing plenty of contact, his Free Throw Rate has gone down. That’s on him, not just the refs.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021
