Hayward is the odd man out. Brown and tatum are the future and obviously danny values kemba. Hayward will be 6th man and when his value is at its highest I think he gets traded for front court stud.
Actually, I expect that, at worst, Hayward will have the 3rd most minutes on the team (after Walker and Tatum), due to his versatility as a ball handler and facilitator. In fact, I would not be surprised if he is 2nd on the team in scoring average, as I feel this board overrates Jayson Tatum's offensive talents.
I'd like nothing more than to be proven wrong about Tatum, but just feel he is too indecisive to become a 20 plus PPG scorer. If he fixes that, cool.
What happens with Hayward is entirely dependent on what version of him we see. If he is at or close to 100% I think he starts and closes games and is among the top two in mpg and ppg. That version of Hayward is clearly the second best player on the team. Of course, we may very well see a lesser version of Hayward, we have no way of being sure he will come all the way back in which case he could easily come off the bench and be a sixth man type.
After being healthy all last season and averaging about 11 points a game it's very hard to imagine Hayward making much of a scoring leap at 29 years old. However, we can be reasonably sure he'll get plenty of minutes in which to try. It'll be a very interesting season to watch. You can discard all the Morris' Roziers and Kyries you want but if the real chemistry issues stemmed from force-feeding an undeserving Hayward minutes than I suspect we'll see them rear their ugly heads again.
For the love of god, please let this narrative die. Hayward played a whopping 25 mpg last year and his efficiency and counting stats increased as the season moved on. I don't really give a hoot if the young guys didn't like Hayward getting minutes. He was signed to a max contract in his prime and he needed to play for the Cs to have any chance. Also, he ABSOLUTELY deserved every minute he was 'given'.
In fact, I would say Hayward's passiveness both on the court and in the locker room was one of the problems last year. He didn't believe enough in himself early on - he should have pushed back, spoken up, and not volunteered to take a demotion.
I am hoping we see the assertive, confident Hayward that we thought we were getting. Not only will we win a ton more games, but it will prove to people just how wrong they were about this player.
