What a ridiculous call by the officials. WOW.   :blank:

Wow, Duke choked it hard. Yeah, it was a bad call against Flagg, but Duke had already blown it. They went 8 minutes without a FG late, and that was that. I hate Duke, but I wanted Flagg to advance ? so of course Duke lost.

They should allow challenges in the tournament. That was such BS and it had a huge impact on the game. Shameful.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I think the idea that Duke completely choked the game away isn't exactly true. I have been reading that over and over again today.   They did go into a shooting slump, and had a couple of bad turnovers.   But that kind of poo-poos a tremendous effort by a Houston team that has done that over and over again this year.

Houston's def down the stretch was insane, huge block at one end with less than a minute left, another huge tip / steal on the inbounds pass. Great effort by Houston on the off boards to gather the missed 3 point attempt / dunk to get it down to a 1 point Duke lead. Great def on Flagg on his missed turn around with less than 20 sec left. Hand right in his face.

Yes, there was the Duke missed front end of the one and one, and there were a couple turnovers. But Houston slowly chipped away at that lead for over 10 min. It was more that the experience and never quit hustle / attitude from Houston finally sucked the life out of a dead tired Duke team by the end of the game.

What I find fascinating about confident hoops teams/players is that they seem ALWAYS make that first "connector" shot.  When Houston was down 6 they hit a 3-pointer that kept things interesting.  Good teams seem to always make that shot, that puts pressure on the opponent and keeps a scenario to victory alive.

What a disgusting game to watch last night. They really shouldn?t allow all the handsy d, checking, over the backs, hands on lower back on drives, impeding progress, clutching off ball .. They don?t have the ability of nba players (for the most part )to separate from the d and all the fouling ( but not called) makes it worse. Some gross shot attempts that had no chance of going in.

I'm glad Houston lost.  Them winning a championship after an egregious foul helped put them in the championship game would have sucked.

I don't understand people who prefer the college game to the pro game.  College basketball these days is pretty painful to watch.

only thing about college ball that's 'better' is a bit more uncertainty in the outcome.  an underdog can pull off a surprise.  that and the players do tend to put more effort into playing hard every game whereas we know NBA players have a tendency to coast for a number of games.

I don't care for the NBA product as it's moved away from traditional play style for centers/PFs into a 3-pt shooting free for all but the college players just seem to be inferior to those from a generation ago.

It's also a bit more raw. People prefer raw, genuine effort. NBA players often don't appear to be trying as hard.

This is true in other areas like public speaking - people prefer genuine, even if it less refined.

For those who are into irony, it's interesting that Florida did to Houston what Houston did to Duke just days before: blew a lead in the closing minutes.
