Our depth seems to be a bit less than anticipated, because of the release of Walker, the disappointing career-start for Scheierman and the lack of offensive progress for Springer, Walsh and Tillman. In other words we could use an extra low-usage defensively strong veteran who easily fits the team.

The best option on the table at the trade deadline might be our familiar Javonte Green. The Pelicans have had a bad start of the season and considering the very strong competition they might not be able to even reach the play-in. A good team to do business with. A veteran on an expiring contract in Green doesn't have huge value. Perhaps Scheierman, Tillman or combined with a second round pick?

Then our playoff-ready roster looks like this (where Green and Kornet are merely injury-covers):

Guards: White, Holiday, Pritchard
Forwards: Tatum, Brown, Hauser, Green
Bigs: Porzingis, Horford, Queta, Kornet

Could be a nice addition.  What would be the deal, trade Springer and a pick of some sort?  Could NOP do that deal (about $2.5M outgoing, about $4.0M incoming)?  I don't think we really need to do this deal.  We are feeling it right now because Brown is out and Hauser is not playing well.  But how much does Javonte Green really change that?  More than Springer, yes, so if we could swap Springer and say a 2nd for Green, and save about $1.5M, great.  But I would not expect this to change things all that much.  If these deal were on the table though, I would say yes, do it.

I think the thing the Celtics are missing is one more dependable bench wing. It's not a huge need but it's the only thing I can see them really lacking.

Looking at bad teams who might be willing to part with veterans and looking at veterans who have salaries to match with Tillman or Springer the name I came up with was... Javonte Green.

He's not a great shooter but he's a terrific defender, athletic, a veteran, and (if I remember right) is a friend of Tatum's.  He's playing more than 20 mpg for the Pelicans right now and that team is a disaster.

If he were interested in a return to Boston, I think he'd be a nice addition as exactly the kind of guy we don't have right now off the bench.

He can?t shoot, so I don?t think Brad would be interested. Would rather have Lonnie Walker. Also, as long as Hauser and/or Pritchard are available, Celtics have no use for him.

I was surprised, but looking at his stats he was actually a pretty efficient shooter the past couple of seasons.  He's playing poorly this year, though.

Pretty much any trade for a minimum salary player in return for Springer makes sense for us financially. If we are looking for somebody who can contribute, however, we'd be better off, looking elsewhere.

I don't think Walker brings anything that Pritchard isn't already excelling at. Green and Walker are both listed as 6'4" but Walker plays much bigger and is comfortable at the 3 while Walker seems to play smaller.

You're right that Green can't really shoot but he can't be totally ignored on the perimeter and he can score in ways that the Celtics don't have right now off the bench: a strong finisher at the rim.

Sounds like a good tinker. Could  provide some benefits, could produce nothing but savings. Might be a better tinker out there but the roster edge moves tend to be slow percentage swing at paying divedends.

My sense is that the organization likes to grow players in the system. Get them comfortable w our plays and schemes. Having players fit seems to make a bigger difference than marginally more skilled players that don?t know the system.

So?.Josh Richardson anyone?

Can we just sign Lonnie Walker again?

Do that and then dump Springer?s salary at the deadline

I think that was plan A, especially if he was going to learn the system with the farm team. Now that he requires a buy out, maybe there are better fits out there.

Any idea how he?s doing in whatever league he?s in?

Looks like Lonnie is playing 23mpg and averaging 17ppg. He?s shooting 45% from 3pt.

I liked Josh Richardson. If the money can be worked out and Miami is looking to collect assets, I'd welcome him back for 10-15 mpg.

Yep, now that PP has gone full Lou Williams, probably Josh is a more salient need type player.

I still think the need another viable wing in the playoffs. Do not want to see Walsh of Peterson play at all.
