Just terrible video of this historic cathedral aflame with the incredible artwork inside. Notre Dame survived massive wars and various French governments but looks as though it will be gone soon.

So, so sad!

I'm trying to avoid seeing it.  It's extremely sad.  I'm glad I got to visit at least once.

And, not to cast blame...  But how does this happen?  Did they not have sufficient fire suppression due to the historic nature of the cathedral?  I know it's hard to modernize a building that is 900 years old, but this sucks, and I wish it could have been prevented.

Video images are awful.   Sad to see something of historical significance & so old just disappear in a moment.

All I could think was how much it would suck to be the person somehow responsible. Like I could see myself plugging in a space heater against regulations.

Is there insurance on that cathedral?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism.
That's just horrible - I was just there in November. The video looks like something out of movie - who would have ever thought it would happen...and so seemingly easily?

I know...

but it doesn't take a genius to realise that it is not suitable for residential areas and more importantly it accelerate the collapse.
