So is he is right, has Curry elevated to the #2 PG all time?  So assuming Magic is 1 (that is who Iggy thinks is 1), if Curry retired today has he already eclipsed Robertson (assuming you count him as a PG), Stockton, Thomas, Cousy, Kidd, Payton, Nash, etc.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I think it's really hard to edge out Robertson. His stats were other-worldly and he did win a championship - and may have won more if it weren't for those pesky Celtics...I just don't know all the details about his impact on the game, though. In 30 years, will we be looking back on guys like Harden and Westbrook like we do Robertson or has he officially separated himself from those guys?

I always thought Stockton was the best point guard. Incredible play maker and defender - the consummate professional. If Curry keeps up what he is doing for a few more years, he will probably supplant Stockton, though.

I expect he's talking about shot selection and taking long 3s.  Lots of high school players can see what Curry does and "think" they can do it too.

Yeah, I can't think of a point guard who would be ahead of him other than magic.

Curry is the best shooter all time. He has one of the greatest handles all time. What he lacks where others atop of the list on the All-Time NBA PGs have is an elite passing ability.

I think that will hold him back as one of the most important jobs as a PG, IMO, is being a passer. Steph is a good passer, not great.

So I have him as #3. If Stockton had won titles, he would be in front of Curry in my book.

While many of the all time great PG's weren't great defenders (Payton and Stockton excepted), they by and large were all better defenders than Curry, which also hurts Curry.

I generally think it's a waste of time to compare players across eras, and nowhere is that more true than at point guard.

How do you compare Cousy, with the rules and strategies of his time, to Robertson... to Magic... to Stockton... to Nash... to Curry?  The rules have changed, the strategies have changed, the workouts have changed, the skillsets have changed.  There wasn't even a three-point line when Cousy and Oscar played, and it wasn't such a dominant part of NBA offense until recently.  Even Nash, who is more recent than the other players I listed, played in a much different NBA.  If Nash's peak coincided with today's NBA, then he's a guy who is probably jacking up 8-10 threes per game at 43% and his inability to defend matters less because nobody can defend point guards with today's rules anyway.  But we don't know that for sure, because you can't accurately translate a guy into another type of basketball and then compare them.

All of those guys are the best of their era.  Curry is too.  I think diving any deeper than that is impossible and therefore pointless.

I agree with nick. Curry is too deficient as a passer and downright terrible as a defender.

I’ve always thought that Stockton was criminally underrated.  He contributed at an elite level in all aspects.

True, and was going to mention this. TP

Many people do that in my gym. I don’t see the pleasure of throwing the ball from 40 feet than spend 30 seconds chasing it after it bounces 🤦‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I'd have Curry no better than 4th, behind Magic, Robertson, and Stockton.  I'd say at this point he's comparable to Isiah Thomas and Chris Paul.

Cousy is just from an era so long ago it's nearly impossible to compare him to any modern player, so I'm not even sure where to rank him.  Heck, even Robertson, is perilously close to being from so long ago he's hard to compare.  But his stats and impact were so overwhelming, I can't leave him off the list.

I believe in Robertson's greatness because even with a much less watered down league, he was putting up numbers it took decades to match. That speaks to me.
