So, I'm still finding it a bit concerning how many Celtic fans have seemingly turned on Kyrie Irving because of clickbaity media hysteria surrounding his recent controversial pre-game interview.  There seems to be a lot of context being lost.  I was recently going back and forth with a few guys on Reddit about Kyrie's "flip-flopping" intentions, and I became very motivated to write a very lengthy post that explained my perception of what is actually going on with Kyrie's free agency and why he is still more than likely re-signing here.  I wanted to touch on the Jan 2018 Jackie Mac article that first gave us a glimpse of this "doubt", the June 2018 Bill Simmons podcast that inadvertently planted these misguided "New York SuperTeam" seeds, the somewhat overblow fan event "promise", and eventually break down Kyrie's interview timestamp by timestamp.

The problem is, I realized it would actually be a lot easier to just put together a video that included all these soundbites.  So here's my attempt to clear up the confusion and explain why Kyrie is still planning on staying in Boston.

Any comments/feedback would be very welcome.

Since you're asking for feedback...

I listened to the whole podcast, which isn't common for me. Pretty impressed with how you put it together. I know nothing about putting together a podcast like this one, so kudos.

My one suggestion is to shorten it. It probably could have been done in under 20 minutes. I felt like you kind of hammered us over the head with the point over and over.

Overall, solid. I'd listen in the future.

Mike

I don't think most of the obnoxious minority actually turned on Kyrie. 95% of those people already disliked Kyrie, and was simply looking for an excuse to hate on him.

He is a celebrity, big draw world wide ,  world wide name .  That goes along with alot of players at the top of their sport.   I hear fans moan about no stars come to Boston .  We got one , in prime of his career , not a used up old dude..  It would be a HUGE win for the franchise for Kyrie to resign.  SMH ....some fans want to drag us back to the stone age.

Boston needed a good dose of this to bring them into this century.

More power to Kyrie and AD .

Larry- i was surprised you didn't mention him pulling his father out in front of New York fans to give him a Celtic Jersey.-That and his chesting pulling his Celtics letters after hitting dagger three.-At those moments he is a Celtic and even better he is playing Celtic basketball.

thanks. Being concise has never been a strength for me.  I find that I don’t always write concisely. Also, I find that I don’t do very concise videos.  Instead of saying something in a very quick way, I tend to drone on and repeat the same thing over and over and over and over again. I guess I do that when I write and I probably do it when I make videos.  I should try to be more concise.

He clearly loves playing for the team, loves the fans, presumably has great respect for the front office and coaching staff, clearly has players on the team like Tatum he's close with... these are all reasons he plans on staying in Boston.

Of course he's staying in Boston.  Why would he want to leave Title Town?  Once we trade for Davis, the Celtics will once again have regular parades too.

If he is staying "for sure" then why doesn't he come out and say so and stop all these rumors? It doesn't make sense why he allows this to play on maybe to his own detriment UNLESS he knows he is not staying.

For one, he does give himself a little wiggle room in case something catastrophic happens. Say Tatum and Brown run into each other and both have serious injuries and Horford decides to retire. Maybe he goes somewhere else in a freak situation like that. Maybe we get swept by the Nets in the first round and he changes his mind. However, barring something crazy it is perfectly reasonable for him to not come out and respond to every single media rumor that comes out. I would be pretty surprised if he isn't talk to his teammates, Brad and Ainge. It doesn't really matter if a few people are freaking out on message boards.

Some of it is for contract negotiations. If you say yes now, the C's may low ball him a few mill a year. This most likely will be his last BIG contact, the one that should set him up for good.

I also think he's trolling the media a bit. He's said several times ask him in July, and they keep asking him because they need something to write or talk about. So he did just that.

I was kidding, but I do think he is almost certainly staying (99%).  From his perspective, why limit his options when he can't sign an extension until July.  And he already did say it and it didn't stop the rumors.  He just wants to focus on the season and not respond to every single new rumor.

He's honing his Hollywood skills.  Creating a story line and generating interest in it.
Yup

Yeah anything can happen, but he's most likely going to stay.  It might be a very different looking team next season, but he'll likely still be on it.

I think we can probably put the Anthony Davis stuff to bed now.
https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/02/anthony-davis-trade-teams

For whatever reason, he wants nothing to do with Boston. Whatever.....
