If we sign someone to the MLE for two years, could we trade that player, Tatum, Yabu, Williams, and draft picks for Davis?  Those four players would count for about $18 million which is a few million short.  I'm not sure how much the draft picks would count for or the rules of a player just signed to the MLE.

I'm trying to figure out how we could keep Brown and Smart.

The picks that are translating would count as value in the trade.

So tatum, yabusele, mle (8.6 mill this season, with raises over 9 mill next) will come in at just shy of 20 million.

Davis is at 27 mill next season.

The picks that convey and cash considerations will cover the difference

Thanks, TP.  Wouldn't that be the ideal scenario?

The best option imo.

2 or 3 picks that would be made this year, tatum, yabs, mle player on 2nd year raise and up to the maximum 3mill cash

I think we only can use the Taxpayer MLE which is $5.3M this year. I think the second year is 120% so $6.4 next year.
Also we could either trade the drafted player(s) rights with no salary going out, or sign the player(s) and wait 30 days then the salary would count.

If I were NOP I would push for Brown and/or Smart rather than a non-guaranteed and signed draft picks. They can force the C's to give up more to match salaries, even if they did so just to flip them for picks. Of course it depends on the other options on the table.

First, the fact Davis didn't get dealt is a great victory for the Celtics. The Pels know what the Celtics are offering, and  clearly no one at the trade deadline had an offer good enough to beat it. Or else they would have made a deal. The only caveat is the draft--whoever gets the no.1 pick could have enough bargaining power to beat the Celtics offer. But then, Davis is much less likely to re-sign there unless that team loads up with other stars and becomes a contender. In the end, contending is the top priority for these stud FAs.

OK. Now on buyouts. The Celtics have an exception  they might use on a buyout.  With the Raptors getting Gasol and the Sixers getting Harris, they need a REBOUNDER. Somebody long up front. This might be a problem for Stevens, however, who seems to have an abhorrence for bigs who can rebound and block shots. In my view, that's their weakness against the other contending teams. Baynes just isn't long enough, and Horford is a stretch 4.

My preference would be Gortat, if he has anything left. About the right size. Maybe Jordan. But once again, how do these bigs fit into Stevens scheme?  How would Davis?

We are taxpayers so the MLE would be $5.34M (second year, $5.6M), not $8.6M, I'm afraid. It would still make a difference, for sure, but we would need to come up with more of the difference.

It would have to be a big that can shoot 3s 🤷🏾‍♂️. I would like Kanter but Gortat would do.

Lots of candidates this season. Let's assume that all of them will end up being available. Whom would you want us to sign? Feel free to vote for up to 3 players.

Well you're only playing them short minutes. We need bigger bodies or the Bucks and Raptors will kill us on the boards. You aren't getting Shaq on the buyout market. Buyouts want money and minutes.

Is Avery Bradley going to be bought out? He would be idea to deal with quick point guards in the playoffs.

You should add Avery Bradley. He'd be perfect.

Oooo. I like that. I don't think he would like signing the two-year deal that likely becomes trade bait though.
