  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
That doesn't make much sense. I know Hayward hasn't been himself, but he is still clearly rotation level player. His contract is currently an albatross, but he isn't.

I would be okay with him taking a few weeks off to focus on a physical training program reminiscent of Jaylen Brown via summer 2017. He seems to have his timing down, but I'd really like to see him confident in hard, physical play. Maybe that will come in the next couple of months...hopefully.

Yes
Tony Parker did it while getting ready to return
I can only find records of him being assigned to the G League. None of him actually playing a game. He was also only assigned for a total of 8 days, so I think it was just for practice.

Yeah rehab stint
Chandler Parsons declined one and he’s on a hefty contract too

I just don't see the value in sending him there. He may as well sit entirely.

Chandler Parsons has also managed 75 games since 2016.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Cannot stress this enough... There is LITERALLY no point of him going there. No. Point.

Yes please .

Low contact , he can get lots of court time , practice driving to the rim and try and over come his brain and mental issues

I think its a great idea.   Let Brown play ALOT .

Gordon needs to,get over this mental deal .  He is just acting like a scard puppy or KO on the court.

Killing the celtics is no way to get over this .

High usage opportunity, get in-game reps on everything he wants to work on
Baseball players do it, why not NBA

No wonder why Anthony Davis doesn't want to come to the Celtics.

Hayward this month is putting up

11.5ppg
3.8rpg
3.3apg
46/30/76 shooting splits
56% TS%

That's not great. It's about what you would expect from a less than $10 million 6th man. He obviously, even in his less than 100% form, can still give you decent production.

The problem is so many get into his expectations based on his salary and that they expected Utah Hayward way too soon.

Hayward got hurt in October then had the surgery then spent 2+ months in a cast and come January 2018 started his rehab. He progressed well until May 2018 when the pain in his leg got too much so he went into another surgery. He then spent all June and most of July on crutches and set him back big-time. So he did what he could from late July to October. His total recuperation was set back maybe 4-6 months because of his second surgery. That fans don't know this, don't care about this or thinks it doesn't matter, then learn about it or take this into consideration about where he is right now physically.

Also, playing up to his total contract disappeared in October 2017.There is nothing anyone can do. He will never live up to the $120 million he will make on this contract. It's a sunk cost. You just do the best you can to get the most you can from him from this point forward.

At this point, you play Hayward in the NBA, against NBA competition and you try to manage his minutes to best suit the outcome of games. If he isn't playing great and hurting the team, play him less. If he is playing well, play him more.

Then just hope all that playing time gets him to get back 100% physically and more importantly, 100% mentally.

Know how shooters get out of slumps? Keep shooting.

Know how to get back to 100% while playing against NBA competition? Keep playing against NBA competition!

This is what it is. My disappointment in disappointment is not that he isn't contributing, because he is, but that he isn't contributing in a matter befitting his contract and as a result he is painful and unenjoyable and irritating for people to watch and we don't like being irritated watching games. Putting him in the G-League where we don't have to see him struggle or conversely to score 30ppg against inferior competition won't help that. I think he needs NBA reps against top competition who will rise up to block him when he goes to the rim, who have enough lateral quickness to take away the drive and who will test him on defense.

Yes it sucks that Gordon isn't contributing 20-5-5 which everyone expected him to when he signed his contract but as of right now the team is moving in the right direction. We lost to GS in the dying seconds because we made a few too many mistakes but we stayed with them the whole game, and we survived a bounce back game against the Nets. Prior to that we won 5 straight. We just have consistency issues and to overcome that the group needs to play together. We need these regular season games to get players - not just Gordon, but Brown, Rozier, everyone who is expected to be a rotation player come playoff time - reps against top quality opposition.

I think we're getting too fixated on one player. Gordon isn't contributing the way we would like, but he's not the only player on this team we need to rely on. After our horror 10-10 start we are 21-9 which is a pretty decent result. Come playoff time if he's still struggling I have no doubt Brad will sit him in favor of whoever else is contributing more, teachers pet or no. But for right now he, and everyone else, need those opportunities to keep playing together.
