Brave Newman CA officer Ronil Singh slain by an illegal immigrant on Dec. 26, 2018.  He had a 5 mo. old son.
(The irony is Off. Singh was a legal immigrant and was killed by an illegal immigrant.)

Pierce Corcoran was killed by an illegal immigrant from a car crash..  He was only 22.

When Jamal Khashoggi was killed in Turkey by the Saudi's their were a lot on the left who were really upset and pointed a finger toward Trump.

Why aren't some on the left upset about this.  Very sad.

Part of life is reconciling the wonderful moments with the horrible events that happen so often.

Although it’s easy to simplify matters and say “some people just don’t care that they died!” the truth is that every semi-decent person feels remorse when hearing of another person’s death.

so you're asking why aren't people upset they weren't murdered/killed by an American citizen or legal immigrant like the vast majority of people killed in this country?

as for Khashoggi, as I recall the finger pointed at Trump was due to his turning a blind eye to the Saudi prince's involvement in the murder despite all US and foreign intelligence agencies implicating the prince.  what is the issue that you're complaining about with that --> are you saying Trump was justified in kissing the prince's ass?  "left/right" is irrelevant when the majority of the country did not and do not agree with what he did.

Of course, as many hundreds of phrenological studies have shown, undocumented immigrants are far more criminally-minded than documented immigrants, which explains why the undocumented kill the documented immigrants and not the other way around.

most killings in the US are done by white people. as a percentage of the crime in the us, illegal immigrants produce less crime and less murders than white people as percentages of the total population.

why isnt this recognized?

how sad.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

How do we know what the illegal immigrant population is?

Good point. "Illegal" population is probably underreported (being scared of deportation and all), so the relative crime rate is probably even smaller...

I’d be interested in knowing if the OP could name a single person on the left who isn’t upset about the murder of 2 police officers.

As a political issue, your real question, rather than the one you asked, is “why doesn’t this incident drive all people to want a Southern border wall to prevent this from ever happening again”.

If you asked a more respectful and straightforward question, you could have promoted a productive dialogue rather than a question designed to accuse and denigrate.  Who knows, you may have gotten an answer like this: It’s pretty clear that just about all people (left and right) are supportive of increased border security that includes components of srrategic border barrier, and increased human and tech surveillance, along with comprehensive immigration reform. It’s the focus on an unspecified “wall” rather than working  on the specifics of border security that has been the problem — sadly, both political parties have joined in this divisive dance to the detriment of progress.

Snipes, even when hurled between the lines, aren’t very helpful.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism.
I had no doubt who the OP was when I saw this thread. Of course people are upset that two police officers were killed - who wouldn't be?

Pucaccia, instead of trying to drive your political agenda with your instigating, insendiary remarks, you should perhaps be a little more sincere with your posts with better explanation about how you feel. I honestly have no idea what the point of this thread really is.

Just read Neurotic Guy's post above mine - tp. Said what I wanted to say in a more articulate manner.

What about crimes committed against illegal immigrants by illegal immigrants? Those should be under-reported as well, which means some crimes committed by illegal immigrants are going under-reported. Given that illegal immigrants are often closely knit together and not dispersed evenly among legal citizens, these crimes are probably intuitively more common than against legal citizens. Therefore, one of the most common crimes committed by illegal immigrants is going under-reported.

Are the killers here not being punished on the grounds that their murderers make powerful people lots of money?  That's probably an important difference.

[Q]uantitative research has consistently shown that being foreign born is negatively associated with crime overall and is not significantly associated with committing either violent or property crime. If an undocumented immigrant is arrested for a criminal offense, it tends to be for a misdemeanor. Researchers suggest that undocumented immigrants may be less likely to engage in serious criminal offending behavior because they seek to earn money and not to draw attention to themselves.

This is a meta-analysis of a huge number of academic studies on immigration and crime. If you're interested in this topic, take a look.

Each individual act of violence is a tragedy worthy of human sadness. But be careful making the jump to broad generalizations.

If Illegals commit crimes like citizens, it is not a matter of significance or not, the fact is that they are committing crimes and adding to our already high totals for murders and other crimes. Our country was built off immigrants but they came to our country by legal means. There are many who are trying to become citizens the legal way and the priority should be focused on them. What is the point of becoming a citizen the legal and right way if they see others not following our laws and coming in illegally? Why should our laws and programs give to those who are breaking those laws when others are waiting in turn to become citizens legally? My wife became a citizen the legal way many years ago as did my great grandparents. It is an insult to them and all of those who are following our laws to do this now by letting others skirt those very same laws.

I feel bad for anyone that is killed or has a crime committed against them no matter if it was done by an illegal or not. The bottom line though is there would be less crime being done to our people if illegals were not allowed to move to sanctuary cities and add to those totals. Yes, our citizens commit crimes too but adding a group of people who are here illegally to that mix, puts the total crimes at a higher level. If you have ten glasses of water filled to the top and remove a quarter of one glass, you have less water then you had before.

I am not a fan of rewarding those who break our laws special treatment and think our focus should be two fold. Stop illegals with greater defense and do not offer them programs to help them if here illegally. Shift the focus to those who are trying to become citizens legally and and help them do just that. Promote that we do want new citizens and show them how to do this the legal way but absolutely try and stop rewarding people who break our laws while the majority of other's do not.

I agree.

Also, the “illegal immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate” claim is silly. Every adult who crosses our border illegally has committed a crime, making the adult crime rate roughly 100%.
