I'm going to classify this under, 'even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while'.  But yes, I agree here as well (although I find it hard to believe anyone other than the members of Congress themselves wouldn't agree).

It is amazing that they are exempt from the furlough ....where is the outrage!!!!

I think most people have simply become numb to DC politics, or just never cared in the first place.  If you look at how many voting age adults vote it's not a very high percentage (barely more than half).

We need a new “Contract For America”, with sensible Constitutional amendments / law changes / rule changes.

1. Term Limits
2. Line Item Veto
3. Requirement to pass a budget, and consequences if they don’t
4.  True campaign finance reform. NO FUNDRAISING at the Presidential or Senatorial level, only allocated government funds. Spending caps on all other races.  House donations can only come from citizens of that state. No corporate / union / group donations.
5. No lobbyists. No bundlers (for money or ballots)
6. Change the filibuster to 55 votes.
7. All Supreme Court nominees are guaranteed an up/down vote within 4 months
8. Cap on the debt, tied to GDP

2. Line Item Veto

Interesting, Roy. I've heard a lot of chatter about the line item veto, wasn't that shot down by the Supreme Court? I know a lot of conservatives worry that such a veto would make the executive branch "too powerful" and hated when Bill Clinton used it.

The House and Senate can each get a 2/3 vote for the budget, and override the President’s Veto. That's what will happen if this goes on too long.

I don’t see House Republicans overriding a Trump veto.

She is right, however the President ran on building a wall and the people elected him, in part, to do it.  It needs to be built.  I personally think it is a terrible idea, but when someone is elected and then tries to do what he said he was going to do, Congress shouldn't get in the way of the will of the people and they should do it.

He promised Mexico will pay for the wall. Nobody is standing in the way of that, except Mexico.

...

Are...are you saying this government shutdown is Mexico's fault?

The wall thing is far more popular than the media presents if you study some polls.

Quite debatable - BUT HE SAID "Mexico will pay for it"! So far, there have been no studies done on how Mexico will pay for it. The altered NAFTA agreement, has not been studied to show, the financial impact, so by Trump saying without proof, it really amounts to just his words.
And if we are counting on His word, then we all doomed.

Present them, friend. From what I've seen, about 40% of Americans are okay with some idea of a 'Wall' (the number changes depending on how The Wall is presented), while about 60% do not want a shut down because of The Wall.

Well, wanting a wall and not wanting a government shutdown as the means to get that wall are not mutually exclusive. There's most certainly some overlap there.

Personally, I think building a 'bigger better' wall than we currently have is a waste, and shutting down the government to get this wall is irresponsible. But we shouldn't be pretending there is any sort of consensus, or mandate, against a wall, either.

Should read:  "and a minority of the people elected him, in part, to do it."

I concur that Trump should try to do the things that he said he would do and for which he received votes -- provided that he legitimately feels it is in the best interests of the country.

I also would point out though, that members of both houses of Congress also have the exact same responsibility.   And that means in many cases that they have a responsibility to their constituents to oppose what the President wants.
