The war on terrorism will never be won. It will be viable for years to come. They can hide and go into hibernation, then make secret plans and throw a sucker punch. There is no defense against a sucker punch.

They count on us losing interest and falling asleep. They have tremendous patients.

- The USA showcased their weapons to future buyers
- Destroyed Syria, disregarded citizens wellbeing
- Immigrants went to EU, weakening EUs togetherness
- Had a proxy war with Russia just to flex each other muscles

Yup, that is a won war by all accounts.
Congratulations America!

I dont like Trump, but pulling troops from Syria is the right move.  We never should've been there to begin with.

I understand your sentiment.  None of us want our soldiers, sailors and airmen to be deployed and in danger.  But unfortunately the reality is that even if we "never should've been there to begin with", that doesn't mean that leaving now in this way is the right move.   The field here is just too complex and delicate.

In chess terms, this is the equivalent of moving one's King into 'mate.

This is likely to have huge, dramatic (and fatal) repercussions on many people, in particular uncounted civilians who are likely to be caught in the crossfire.

It is yet another move by Trump that gives free license to Putin's aggression.   Putin already has made it clear in his statements that he loves this move by Trump.

In "the lying never stops" news, ISIS has been upgraded from "totally defeated" to "somebody else's problem".  In less than 24 hours! Quite a comeback.

Christmas certainly came early for Assad, the Russians, the Iranians, and the Turks.

I wonder if the Great Negotiator got us a good deal as part of the withdrawal. or are we giving up that leverage for free.

Apparently we're gonna build some great condos in Damascus. Just top of the line, brand new appliances, primo units.

We already got him as part of the deal. Russia helps Donald get elected. Donald does whatever Putin tells him to do.

The hits just keep on coming, as Secretary of Defense Mattis resigns in clear indication that he does not concur with Trump's international policy decisions:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/20/us/politics/jim-mattis-defense-secretary-trump.html

Quote
“One core belief I have always held is that our strength as a nation is inextricably linked to the strength of our unique and comprehensive system of alliances and partnerships,” Mr. Mattis wrote.

“Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position,” he wrote.

I think we may be nearing the time when former inner circle players, some of whom were once thought of as the "grown-ups" at the White House, come clean on what they are seeing from this POTUS and some of his advisors (particularly Miller).   In recent weeks/months, Tillerson, Kelly, Mattis, Sessions, Haley are gone.  I realize Trump has eviscerated Sessions and Tillerson already -- and will attempt the same with others if needed -- but the power is in their hands to collectively blow the lid on what is really happening; how decisions are made -- how narcissism, lies, impulse and unsavory influences are guiding this country.

Of course, I am assuming that the WH is thoroughly dysfunctional which may not be the case.  But if it is as I suspect, it's time to put this out to the American people.
