I've been seeing this all over R wing sites and wanted to get opinions.

Quote
The Immigration and Nationality Act, Section 292, states that aliens in removal proceedings "shall have the privilege of being represented (at no expense to the government)." Immigrant special interest groups, sometimes on behalf of unaccompanied minors, have tried since 1996 to challenge this section, claiming it violates aliensí rights. Federal courts have always rejected these claims.

if it is, it needs to get in line behind the multitude of scandals surrounding the sitting president. those are a lot more immediate and in need of attention.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy ó not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

The Immigration and Nationality Act was passed in 1965.

On December 23, 2008, the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization
Act of 2008 (TVPRA) was passed.

[[Page 122 STAT. 5079]]

 ...

 (5) Access to counsel.--The Secretary of Health and Human
Services shall ensure, to the greatest extent practicable and
consistent with section 292 of the Immigration and Nationality
Act (8 U.S.C. 1362), that all unaccompanied alien children who
are or have been in the custody of the Secretary or the
Secretary of Homeland Security, and who are not described in
subsection (a)(2)(A), have counsel to represent them in legal
proceedings or matters and protect them from mistreatment,
        exploitation, and trafficking.

...

The later bill modifies the law from the former bill.

I have no idea if it should be a scandal, because that was a pretty poorly written article.

What was the stated purpose of the $310 million in contracts?  What legal justification did the administration provide?

Thatís an odd statute. It claims they shall have the privilege of counsel, but not at the governmentís expense. If you read the first half, it would sound like theyíd be provided counsel, but that obviously isnít free to the government if itís the entity providing it. As it stands, I have no issues with providing counsel to them.

I don't know the legalities but it feels about as accurate as the talk surrounding the caravan of criminals coming to invade America.

It's so much fun watching the US struggle with politics from outside. To the rest of the world it's like a Muppet show. Especially with Trump at the helm.

Watching America discover Trump might actually not be the best candidate out of 300 million people is like watching a baby discover its fingers.

And news like this is like watching an uncle rock up with some kind of toy and going "lookaddisnewtoy!!"

Honestly, your country looks like a joke thanks to news stories like this, dodging the actual issue: the Muppet at the helm.

Anyway, that's the outside perspective. Do with it as you see fit :)
