On deck circles?

Why are there no marked on-deck circles at Fenway Park? No, I'm not talking about those old-time fungo circles, I mean the circles right next to the dugouts. They don't seem to be there at fenway, and photos back that up. The circles used to be there. What gives?

Back in the year 2000 Jason Varitek broke his elbow falling on the rubberized on deck circle.  Since then they got rid of them.
