Assuming, we have the following:

Ball-handlers: Irving, Rozier, Smart, Wanamaker
Wings: Hayward, Brown, OPEN
Swings: Tatum, Morris, Ojeleye, Yabusele
Bigs: Horford, Baynes, Theis, Williams III

Rather than focus on the BHAG of trading Kawhi, why not focus on filling whatever perceived gaps we have with a veteran free agent ring chaser or league minimum player. Because make no mistake, with the team above, there will be countless veterans who want to jump onboard.

Vet Min Targets
- Jamal Crawford
- Vince Carter
- Michael Beasley
- Devin Harris

League Minimum Targets
- Jabari Bird (is this the easy choice?)
- ???

**edited to include Marcus Morris who I omitted in original thread and take out double count on Theis and re-position to Bigs rather than Swings. I have 4 kids. Forgive me LOL.

I love the idea of the thread, and it helps us focus on what we already have. You forgot to include Marcus Morris who is under contract for next year.

He also double included Theis in the swings and bigs section.  I think he meant to put Morris there.

Forgiven.   ;D Although I think people will read it more clearly if Theis is in the bigs.  He’s a stretch 4/5, not a large wing like Morris and Tatum, even if he’s a similar size.

Exactly what I was thinking. Position really doesnt matter as long as he can shoot and doesnt kill us on defense. The nice thing I see is that Wannamaker and Smart can both play SG to some extent as well.

Probably should include Hayward among the swings since he does play small ball big from time to time.

Of your targets

Vet Min Targets
- Jamal Crawford (I expect him to join GS/LAL or HOU)
- Vince Carter (he might be okay but he's what about 44)
- Michael Beasley (even if he is small cancer I don't want him)
- Devin Harris (Please no)

I am not real enthused about this list.

Assuming, we have the following:

Ball-handlers: Irving, Rozier, Smart, Wanamaker
Wings: Hayward, Brown, OPEN
Swings: Tatum, Morris, Ojeleye, Yabusele
Bigs: Horford, Baynes, Theis, Williams III

I think our guys are versatile enough for this structure to be a little undercooked. For example, Hayward is legitimately a ball handler and a wing, as well as capable of small-ball 4. Similarly, Horford's most effective position is as a stretch 5, yet he ends up handling the ball a lot, and racking up assists from the mid post and on kick-outs.

This is all to say that our team is sort of predicated on blowing up (even the newer) roster paradigms. Not sure this is the correct attribution, but the guy from the Stepien, Cole Zwicker, likes to say, "I want players who can dribble, pass and shoot". Which seems obvious of course, but so few teams have more than 2-3 of those kind of players. We have Kyrie, Hayward, Horford, and arguably Tatum that fit that mold. Rozier might be another, depending on how you feel about his handle and passing (I'm lukewarm on both). Smart/Brown/Morris are all 2/3 and
the other 7 guys are situational. I tried to do that same thought exercise for the Cavs last year I struggled to get to 5 guys who I'd say at least 2/3 about.

What I like about this team is that we have four shooters.....Irving, Hayward, Tatum, and Horford.

And four bigs who can defend.....Horford, Baynes, Theis, and Williams.
