Is it okay to ask this question... Is there a possibility this woman is not telling the truth?

It’s always possible, of course.  But according to your link she was examined the next day at a trauma center and had both physical and emotional symptoms of having been assaulted, so the odds are far greater than not that she was in fact telling the truth.

I’m just playing devils advocate here, I don’t know enough about the case. There are plenty of legitimate cases of rape, and this very well could be one of them. I’m just saying, some people like rough sex and are master manipulators.

Hope that's not true it's awful!

On another note Mercer seemed like a decent player his rookie year than was out of the NBA quickly. Why was that?

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Money makes these things problematic.

There were also likely witnesses at the club that she'd been with those men.

Add to that the physical trauma and it looks very bad. i don't buy the "rough sex" defense we're seeing pop up lately. If you as physically abusing someone then the ball is essentially in their court as to whether you're guilty of a crime or if it was consensual. Just don't do it and there will never be any question. I have no sympathy for that at all.

Pretty horrifying stuff. Also disturbing it happened under Pitino's watch. You have to wonder if his influence played a role, and how many young men he's led astray.

Yeah, there are instances where women lie for sure. My friend's GF did this, she claimed a guy from a bar raped her when in fact it was just infidelity. He did some sleuth work and found the truth and she eventually admitted it. She was never going to press charges or anything, but it is still a horrible thing to say.

In this case though the physical abuse corroborates her story. If a man (or men *shudder*) are going to inflict multiple injuries on a woman then they should fully expect to go to jail or be sued. IMO that is common sense.

Wow. That's horrible. They are way lucky not to be in jail.
I moved the cheese.

Man, the '90s were a dark time for Boston sports.

So, checking the date on this, this happened literally days before the infamous Bledsoe/Lane/Zolak stage diving incident at the Paradise.

This is disappointing to read.  I like Chauncey on ESPN, seems pretty together.

I always wondered why Pitino gave up on Mercer and Billups so quickly...

Probably more to do with his impatience; he traded Billups for Kenny Anderson, who was still a pretty decent Point Guard. Billups was a rookie who took a number of years (and several teams) to develop into an all star guard.

Just thinking of the Pitino days makes me want to puke.

Really awful that he gave up a long term prospect like Billups for such a short term goal like squeaking into the playoffs.

I remember I couldn't believe he traded him that quickly. Everyone thought Pitino was our savior when in fact he had no idea what he was doing.

Just imagine years of Billups and Pierce playing together. Oh yea and 'Twan... Wasn't a big fan of him but we had a real team in the making before that lousy decision.

Reading up on what the heck happened to Ron Mercer this morning and stumbled upon a conversation that I had to vett. Found this....

http://www.morelaw.com/verdicts/case.asp?s=MA&d=9443

Holy moly...

No kidding :o - TP. I'm a bit late to the party in terms of fandom, here, so thanks for this rather disturbing piece of information.

On another note, what I'll never understand is as to how Pitino had been recruiting Tracy McGrady while the former was still at Kentucky, only to bypass T-Mac on draft night? That just makes no sense to me, at all, so can someone who was a fan at that time possibly chime in on this?

Man, I know that it obviously sucked to miss out on Duncan, but what rivals that continued streak of bad luck, imo, has to be the fact that, despite their inept coaching and management, Boston had still managed to identify Ben Wallace, only to incorrectly analyze his abilities and let him go, if that makes any sense, were very keen on Kobe, and had a coach who had recruited McGrady :o, not to mention a couple of other shrewd moves in terms of bringing in undrafted free agents in David Wesley and, later, Bruce Bowen, even though I've never been a fan of the latter.

Deng :o. Talk about a stacked team, lol ;D. Brb, inventing time machine ;D...

Let's hope the young guys we have now have more character than this - but you never know. These basketball kids, especially, are worshipped and given everything once they become an AAU star. They develop that attitude of arrogance.

I miss the 60's and 70's and 80's when the Celts were to be admired.

I remember going to Atlanta in the 70's & 80's to see the Celtics ...........it was amazing these gorgeous women just hanging around the tunnel areas waiting on players to come out.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce
