Too often, we judge other groups by their worst examples while judging ourselves by our best intentions.
Historically people grow more conservative as the get older
As odd as it sounds (I think) to be growing more moderate, I think that’s where I am. I am not a fan of either of the two major political parties, and not a fan of libertarianism either. I think sometimes more government is needed and sometimes less is needed. I think sometimes it’s a good idea to let things play out in the “marketplace” and sometimes the marketplace needs to be regulated based on values and common good. I believe the economic pendulum shifts left and right over time and that striking the right balance depending on circumstances, rather than political or economic ideology, should drive decision-making most of the time.
You betray a narrow political bias with your question. The US has one of the smallest political spectrums of all industrialized nations. There are far, far more choices than those held forth by the US.
