This trade doesn't seem to make sense for either side. Kristaps Porzingis is out, so it could be a good time to see what they have in WH and Charlotte has too many bigs already....
Gotta remember you're dealing with NY and Michael Jordan. I can't remember when the Knicks won a trade and Jordan has no clue what he is doing in Charlotte.
The Hornets gave up virtually nothing for a very talented young big man. This was a great move for Charlotte regardless of how clogged its frontcourt is.
No idea what the heck the Knicks are doing. Should have just traded O'Quinn over the offseason to clear some playing time for Hernangomez. Should have shopped Kanter around, too.
Let's also remember that Willy was Porzingis' best friend, so I'm sure KP isn't too happy about this. Just a stupid move by the Knicks.
common man, that is totally irrelevant. both teams made a lateral move that makes no sense. kanter will be beasting in NYK, luckly i own him on my fantasy team.
hope all the best for Zinger, looks like a great guy and a player.
No it is not "totally irrelevant."
Porzingis has already shown a penchant toward being emotional (i.e. skipping exit meetings and going over to Latvia just to spite the Knicks FO), so it would not be the least bit surprising if he doesn't take too kindly to them trading his best friend (who can ball, by the way).
Should it matter? No. In reality, KP should grow up and understand that it's a business and that things like this happen, but just because it should be irrelevant doesn't mean it will be.
It's also not like the Knicks' FO has a good track record, with which Porzingis has already expressed frustration. This Hernangomez trade could just be one of the steps that eventually leads to KP bouncing once he hits free agency. Believe me: if New York doesn't turn things around when that time comes, this horrible trade will be one of the things he remembers.
This is also hardly a lateral move by the Knicks. It's a backward move. They traded a very talented young big who made the All-Rookie team last year after averaging eight points and seven boards in 18 minutes (16 and 14 per 36) for three pieces that will probably never see the light of day.
This was an awful trade for the Knicks and a great one for the Hornets, who gave up essentially nothing for a talented, young, cost-controlled player.
