Why does Smart get so many shots? Because he takes them.

Because he's open a lot.  And I think we all know why he is open so much.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
And when he is on we don't lose often.  ;)

That’s the only way to get over a 2 year shooting slump.

This is true. I get it if you don't like Smart and never want to see him again.

Brad/Danny share a different view. They like Marcus, and want to see him shoot, so he can improve. He's still young, and the only way to improve in game shots is to..... Shoot!
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

I was joking . I like Smart . And would like him to stay at the right price.
BUT he should not be taking the 2nd most shots in the team - and it happens quiet often .

Do you think its even possible that Stevens knows how many shots his players take?

I think that Stevens has access to box scores.

Which makes me think that Marcus is encouraged to shoot by his organization....

Which makes me think that the Celtics agenda is not correlated to posts written on this blog.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

We are still entitled as fans to criticize and have an opinion .
And yes, Stevens probably knows b-ball bettter than me.

Sure, fans are allowed to have opinions. Doesn't mean that opinions are all equal or valuable.

I have read "Marcus shoots too much" a million times. Either Brad has been asleep at the wheel, or this is intended. I'm going with the latter.

I think that Brad knows they need Marcus to score in the playoffs to do serious damage.

I'm not sure that we should be very concerned about Marcus Smart's shooting, esp in games that they beat Houston and Cleveland. If Marcus was losing games for the Celtics, we would have a whole other issue on our hands.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

It's clear that Brad understands what is going on and he encourages his players to take open shots. I think we need to remember that confidence matters, if he starts telling guys not to shoot, that will kill their confidence. Given how well the team has played, I think it makes sense to trust Brad's judgment here.

Smart doesn't necessarily shoot too much, but he does hold the ball too long as the clock is running down. I'd like to see him move the ball and move off it more quickly when the clock gets to 12-14 seconds. Frequently, he holds it and then is forced to shoot it with time waning when no one breaks free. Sometimes, just move the ball earlier Marcus!

For people saying he should take the open shots, wouldnt those shots going to a better offensive player like Tatum/Irving lead to higher offense?

not saying he shouldnt shoot, but he shouldnt shoot 14 times in a game. Too many times I see the ball never go to tatum when Smart is on the floor and hes looking for his own shot.

Only difference is one guy shoots 30% and the other 49%

hes great at passing/defense but he needs better shot selection...

Yes...this^^^^

I disagree, Smart largely takes good shots within the offense most of the time. He's just overall a bad shooter. FWIW Smart's usage is not very high and he's only shooting 11 shots per 36. That's not a lot.

Same reason I like Theis and Baynes taking a few 15 foot shots when they are open, or the occasional 3 point shot. You have to make other teams treat all 5 players like threats if you want ball movement to work.

I totally disagree with this. Last night he did a decent job of doing that but overall I see him take much more bad shots than good. Making or missing doesn't matter when I say this, I'm just talking about if he should take that shot or if he has the ability to hit the shot he takes. Unfortunately IMO he takes more bad than good shots which is a big problem and hurts him as an offensive player.

Because he's like sliced bread.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale
